Boston Plans 'Rolling Rally'

The city of Boston will celebrate the 2007 World Champion Red Sox with
a "rolling rally" on Tuesday, Boston Mayor Tom Menino announced Monday.

The players will ride on World War II-era amphibious duck boats and will
take the same route as the 2004 championship parade, except they won't go
into the Charles River, Menino said.

The rally will begin at noon at Fenway Park and Lansdowne Street, circle
Fenway Park, go up Boylston Street to Boston Common and end near City Hall.

There will be no stops along the way.

Menino did say that Red Sox closing pitcher Jonathan Papelbon has promised to
do his now-famous dance routine at several locations along the route and joked
that the length of the parade would be determined by how long Papelbon danced.

"He has to do a dance," Menino said. "He promised the people he would do a dance."

The Dropkick Murphys, whose song "I'm Shipping Up to Boston" is Papelbon's theme
as he enters a game at Fenway, will also perform during the parade.

Large television screens will be set up at Copley Square, Boston Common and City Hall plaza.

Menino acknowledged having the celebration on a week day would inconvenience some businesses
and keep school children away, but said players were eager to get home to their families and
begin their vacation.

Menino also said a "rolling rally" was easier for city officials to manage, because it spread
out the crowds. He estimated security would cost $500,000.

TheBostonChannel.com will livestream the parade starting at noon.

Red Sox Arrival Plans For Monday

The Boston Red Sox are scheduled to arrive at Logan Airport from Denver at 3:30 p.m. Monday.

However, there is no public ceremony or availability at the airport.

The team will immediately board buses for the trip to Fenway Park.

The team is scheduled to be back at Fenway between 3:45 p.m. and 4 p.m.
