Help me save the ducks
I'm in Baton Rouge,LA.My sister lives in a fancy subdivision off Coursey Blvd and she told me today about a meeting they have scheduled on Monday. Someone moved in a house by the lake and is taking issue with the ducks walking around there and doing what ducks are doing. They want them removed and even suggested to have them gassed and burnt! I'm so upset and so is my sister and her husband. They will vote on this Monday and I want to make sure the ducks will get their say, too.
What can I do to get the word out? Is there any organization who will speak up and help the ducks?

My sister's been there for almost 30 years and so have the ducks! One of the older residents feeds these ducks everyday and my brother-in-law has duck duty on the weekends, when he's out of town I have had the pleasure and honor to feed them. They are obnoxious and funny, especially the ugly looking ones(I can't remember the name) and they have Mallards too. So beautiful! The kids love them so and get a kick out of the ducks snatching the bread out of their little hands.
This is just so wrong!

1. Saving the Ducks
Have you tried Ducks Unlimited? They are sports people very much dedicated to the preservation of ducks. There may be a chapter in your state.

2. Thanks
yes,I remembered them after I posted this.I'll call in the morning.
I might try the TV Stations too.
I'm so angered by this. Since when has it become ok to kill a creature because it cramps your style?
Why buy a house at the lake if you don't want to see water birds? They're lucky there are no gators in it! What's next? The kids who fish there?

Sorry, for the rant and thanks for your help.

3. The issue you raise is indeed a most important one.
Giving wild life a voice is the responsibility of every person . Although there are plenty of people that could care less. That in turn makes the responsibility greater for those who are wise.

Sometimes it is necessary to remind the wise it is time to step forword and speak out.

4. Seems like something that would have made the paper...

At least in a letter to the editor.

May I ask what, exactly, this person is taking issue with? As a general rule, ducks aren't the most dangerous of critters...

On edit: I was beginning to think I was the only Baton Rouge DUer. Good to see another local. :)

5. Here in South Florida it's a crime to hurt the ducks. Check and see if it is the same there.
If they are protected then you've got a heavy ally.
