What do you do if you are uninsured in Kansas?
My daughter was just fired (!) and she was carrying the insurance. She and her husband, who's working part time, have my grandson who's 2 1/2. Her insurance runs out the end of this month.

1. What do you do if you are uninsured anywhere?
Can she go on COBRA? Otherwise, find out about the state's Medicaid program, as they hopefully now are poor enough to qualify.

She needs to be searching for a job with benefits immediately. But she already knows that. Her husband needs to be doing everything possible to get a job with health benefits. Presumably he's doing everything possible.

Just in case this is feasible, suggest either or both of them seek employment at a hospital, as hospitals typically have good health care benefits.

Beyond that, they need to subscribe to the Republican Plan, which is to not get sick. (A little sarcasm)

2. They're both working on this.

Both sets of in-laws will be helping out as much as possible. And let's hope they stay healthy for awhile! Her husband's working on his Master's, but he's going to have to step it up a bit. She's sending out resumes every day. Thanks for the advice.

On edit, how do you like living in Santa Fe? Friends have a house there and we visit as often as we can. Love the place!

5. I LOVE Santa Fe.
I moved here nearly three years ago from Overland Park, and it's the best thing I could have done.

I was in the process of a divorce, the kids were grown, I'd never been that crazy about living in Kansas, and I decided to make a whole new life for myself. I've bought a small place on the southside (off Airport Road, since I think you'd have an idea where that would be), just love the weather, have made good friends, have a part time job at the hospital (benefits!!) and live a very quiet life.

In my most optimistic fantasies that the marriage hadn't ended, I can't imagine have persuaded my now ex to move here, and this was absolutely the perfect place to move to for me.

6. I know how you feel about Santa Fe..
Btw, I lived in Overland Park over 5 years ago. We lived there for 10 years, and my daughter is living there, too.
