Phill Kline's gotta go
One of the prosecutors in the Jo Co DA office is speaking out. I heard her last night. She left and is working for Morrison in Topeka now. She said Phill is ruining the DA's office. She told many horror stories. A murderer was up for parole on Monday and no one from the DA's office was there to represent the people of Johnson County. The attorney who should have been there was playing golf. She told of another case where the defendant was charged with 5 felonies and had no attorney (she called this a no brainer win) and Kline's people let him plea down to a misdemeanor and time served. And Kline is calling that a win.

The only case he has won was that murder trial last week where the defendant's mother testified against him. DUIs are being thrown out because evidence is lost. Criminal defense attorneys are lining up to get easy wins since the prosecutors are so incompetent. 20 of 32 attorneys in the DA's office have left since January, some fired and some quit.

She said someone needs to file a FOIA and find out how much restitution has been collected and paid since January in Johnson County.

Here's the best part: Phill is working 6 to 8 hours a week - for $143K a year.

The only way we can get rid of Phill is a petition. We need 86,000 signatures. It will be a tough challenge but a worthy cause. Who's in? They started a committee last night and I will post info here.

1. Post away, I will sign.
Phill Kline is like a bad case of the clap. We keep trying to get rid of him but the other side keeps screwing around and giving him back to us.

2. It is so sad; this lady was head of the Domestic Violence unit
She was remarkable. What a tragedy that she is lost to us here in Johnson County.

3. Why am I not surprised?
It's simply a matter of time before he screws up some sufficiently high-profile case that it will actually hit the media.

I'm somewhat surprised that 12 of the attorneys from Morrison's time are still there. Any one of them could go into private practice and make twice what the DA office pays, I'm sure.

I did filing in the Adult Records Room for about six months a couple of years ago. I'd see Paul Morrison all the time. He was good, and competent, and it showed in his staff. I've considered calling over there to see if the Records Room people are still there, and if they've been impacted by Kline's presence. Probably not, and I really would hesitate to introduce what amounts to partisan politics to people who always behaved in a completely non-partisan way in their jobs.

Make sure the petition makes it to the next Second Saturday.
