So JoCo will have one more badly-needed D in the Kansas legislature, after all. Thank goodness for those crucial 4 votes that put him over the top. :bounce:

2. How Many Total Dems?
How many statehouse Dems from Johnson County does that make now? Wasn't this Yonally's seat before? I'm so happy it won't go to the conservatives Rs. Please let us know if a request for a recount is filed today.

There's Gene Rardin, Sue Storm, and Cindy Neighbor. The other 19 or so are Republicans. But we've gotta start somewhere. I haven't heard yet whether there will be a recount.

ETA to add that yes, this was Yonally's seat. He was beaten in the primary by Kriegshauser.

4. Yes!
I actually brought a bottle of champagne over to Gene after he told me the news. He was so thrilled and excited. Still haven't heard if Kriegshauser will ask for a recount, but our county chair, Bill Roy, thinks this will hold.

6. There will be a recount. Keeping my fingers crossed!
With only four votes separating candidates in the race for the 16th District Kansas House seat, Overland Park Republican John Dennis Kriegshauser has requested a re-count.

After provisional ballots were counted Monday, Democrat Gene Rardin of Overland Park appeared to win by the slim margin.

The state will pay for the re-count under a statute that allows the action if the margin is less than 0.5 percent, and if the candidate requests a re-count using the same method under which the ballots were originally counted.

Johnson County Election Commissioner Brian Newby said the time-consuming portion of the re-count will be separating 16th District paper ballots from among the 30,000 or so paper ballots cast.

8. Other recounts
I understand that Democratic incumbent Tom Thull from Newton has requested a recount (he's down by about 32 votes) and Democratic candidate (open race without incumbent) has also requested a recount, though I do not know his vote deficit.
