Saw a deer this morning in the vicinity of 75th St and State Line Rd.
Not exactly an environment known for wildlife of this kind.

Went out to my car around 5am to get something out of the back and saw a large animal. Thought it was a huge dog, but as it moved, I saw that it was a deer. I watched it for several minutes until an early-morning jogger ran by and scared her away.

Don't know where it came from; there are no wooded areas around there to speak of. I was worried that with dawn approaching she would become frightened in trying to find seclusion in the suburbs. Also, Wornall Rd., State Line Rd., and 75th St. come alive during early-morning rush hour with heavy traffic which would also contribute to the deer's anxiety and make it more difficult for her to cope.

I have seen owls, opossums and skunks at this hour in this neighborhood, but never a deer. I wonder what happened to her...

1. I'm not surprised....
...I've seen deer in residential areas (wooded parks, streams next to backyards, etc.) just a few miles from the Loop in Chicago. They follow streams and small creeks into town and can have a bit of trouble finding their way out.

Food certainly isn't a problem as I don't need to remind anyone of what's in out garbage.

Just like here in KS, the CRP program has caused all sorts of wildlife to flourish, along with some unintended consequenses....

2. We saw a whole family up north at a light about a year ago
Right smack dab in the middle of a populated area, just like 75 and State Line. There were probably 8 or 9 of them. Eating grass - and seemed oblivious to the traffic.
