Ok, Kansas. I'm posting this here now and then leaving for the weekend
When I come back Tuesday morning I wanna hear how everyones weekend was. This forum has been dead for a while (party my fault, I admit).

What's everyone planning for the weekend?

I'm going to some family stuff tonight, tomorrow and Sunday, but not sure where I'll end up Monday.

You?

1. Hey have a great weekend
and give me a call if you end up anywhere near KC.

We are going to the big 4th of July thing on the riverfront on Sunday. Sounds like a great fireworks display.

4. Alright. A lot of responses. Good
Heh.

Anyway, I went to a party Saturday night and pretty much got my fill of fireworks. My cousin's dad hosted it, and he spent a lot of money on the fireworks display. We had three stations, each with a lot of stuff, so I got to man one of those stations. Satisfied my need to blow things up.

5. oops. Sorry
I tend to check the "my posts" and then GD and then the Lounge, and only come here if nothing else is going on. Of course, I worked Saturday and Sunday, so this weekend thing is a mystery to me. Sunday night I had to bike home in the pouring rain. Monday I felt like I was under seige with all the illegal fireworks being shot off. Yes sir, it is a great day to show your love for your country by violating your local laws against fireworks. Really, could we just set a time so I do not have to hear the stupid pop, pop, pop all frigging day and for the past week too? I started to have 'nam flashbacks and it was only a matter of time before I got my M-16 and went looking for the snipers. Except of course I am too young for 'nam and I do not own an M-16, or even a paintball gun. I hate this holiday too much I suppose, but fireworks are like rain, I can take about four hours of it and then I start to get frazzled and I really want somebody to make it stop!! It probably was not the best time for me to watch the movie "John Q" either - very powerful and moving film, and also very leftist. One of my dogs got sick in the middle of it - my fault, stupid rawhide bones always make her sick, and they were also all freaked out by the fireworks. So I probably have had better weekends.

7. John Q, huh? Left wing, you say...
I'll have to check it out.

Sorry to hear about the weekend, BTW.

I'm still hearing fireworks in Lawrence at night.

Probably will for a few weeks.

But then agian, my g/f and I both live near frat houses...

9. We live in a "quiet" little neighborhood
but firecrackers have been shot off every night for the past week. I was mowing the lawn a little while ago and when I turned it off to pick up some sticks it sounded like someone had just lit a whole pack of Black Cats. It isn't just the frats (which traditionally don't have full houses during the summer) it is all over.

16. Are you sure?
Those frat boys may not be here. In fact, it may not be "boys", if you know what I mean.

Some just don't want to talk about her. Others mention her in hushed tones, not wanting to seem foolish.

And some, like Mike Folkmann, are matter-of-fact about Virginia, the ghost of Sigma Nu.

The Kansas University sophomore and some of his friends have had a few unexplained experiences -- flickering lights, slamming doors and troubled dreams -- that make them think there's something to the story.

Some, including the chapter president, say they've actually seen Virginia's ghostly image in the Kansas University fraternity's house at 1501 Sigma Nu Place.

18. lawnmowers are another thing that I seem to hear about 24/7
It would be sorta nice if we could co-ordinate things so that everyone in a neighborhood cuts their grass from say 10-1 or 5-7 on Wednesdays or Saturdays and the rest of the time it would be quiet.
Same with fireworks. If people for some reason cannot or will not go to the public displays couldn't we have block parties instead of all 15 houses on the block putting on their own private shows? They could even be guidelines, instead of strictures, but we probably prefer our anarchy to an organized society. Hardly our most pressing issue anyway. Maybe next year I will have an iPod playing 24/7 and I will not hear a thing.

6. My weekend was pretty good, but a description of it would be boring.
;) But now at least you have one more response!

I'd give anything for a non-eventful weekend. I want to know what one is like.

11. Hmm, well, DH was home for the weekend, in between business trips,
so we took it easy. Until his Prius comes in, he's driving a ridiculously nice Beemer that his boss loaned him, so we went driving in that. (I then had to deprogram him and remind him that we couldn't afford the gas for that car, let alone the car itself! Besides, I think the Dem bumperstickers will look better on a Prius.) ;)

We skipped the fireworks display again this year, because 4-y.o. Spider-Man doesn't like the noise. Spent much of the weekend trying to convince him that one Spider-Man costume at a time is sufficient. He likes the added bulk of wearing two padded muscle costumes at once, but that can lead to overheating (even though the butts of both costumes have been ripped open for some time now). And when he tries to disguise himself as Peter Parker by putting on his regular clothes over all that, it's not a good scene.

We ate a lot of good food ... barbeque, and some king crab legs we'd been saving for awhile. We also drank some hard lemonade and made fun of Republicans. All in all, a pretty good weekend.

19. that isn't really fair
Spiderman is not known for his muscles. He is a scrawny little guy who wins fights because of his speed, his ability to climb walls, swing from webs and shoot webs, and because he has the proportionate strength of a spider. He has the strength but not the size.

21. That's very true, and it's a big part of Spider-Man's appeal.
But try telling that to a little kid who really really wants big muscles! ;)
