Please start hammering him harder and harder until he breaks.

1. Grassley says a lot of things....
....but whether the people round here believe the same things is a different thing entirely.

2. I have debated whether to call his office on this.
I will tomorrow.
But I think it more important to start building the anti-Grassley backlash through various vehicles. Then he can go cut his fucking grass permanently after next November!

3. I've called his office.
Had a meeting today with Harkin's aide. She said that Senator Harkin is for single payer, but there will be a public option in the bill.

I asked why the only person we see on the news is Grassley. She says that Harkin sends out press releases every day and sometimes several times a day. The "news" media just seem to ignor them. They are talking about just hitting the small radio stations or something, because they can't seem to get on any of the main channels.

She also said that he is getting a lot of mail against the public option. I told her that I usually don't call Senator Harkin because he's mostly on the right side of things. I guess I'll give his office a call too.

I think that I will take a stack of postcards to our central committee meeting Monday and see if we can't get a bunch sent out.

4. We have about as much diversity in media as the old Soviet Union
Radio owned by ClearChannel mostly, Cumulus and NPR (don't get me started on them).
Tv in Iowa owned by the likes of Sinclair. I don't think any commercial station in Iowa is locally owned.
Newspapers are Gannet and Lee enterprises.

What America needs is something like was done in Eastern Europe after WWII with the Voice of America.

5. Well ... we've got the Internet.
At least you can stream a bunch of shows live as well as download as podcasts for play later on a portable media player. Not as easy as the radio in every car, but works for many people living in areas where they can't pick up a station carrying Stephanie Miller, Thom Hartmann, Ed Schultz, etc.

Interestingly, in markets where there really is competition, shows like Miller, Hartmann, Franken, etc. have all done very well against Hannity, Limbaugh, etc. Beating them in many cases.

7. Once upon a time the QCA had Airamerica. Franken kicked Limpy's ass
Steph and Ed did well. The station was sold out rather quickly.

8. KCRG
is locally owned, I believe, probably only one in the state.

6. Ya, I just talked to one of his local yokels in the office here.
She didn't even know what a public option was.
