Something to be proud of???

U of I 12th on party school list
ASSOCIATED PRESS • July 28, 2008

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Just call 'em the Guzzling Gators: The University of Florida is the nation's No. 1 party school.

The school tops the annual list of party campuses compiled by the Princeton Review. The university has made the list before, but has never been first. It wrested the title away from West Virginia University.

Coming in second was the University of Mississippi, followed by Penn State University, West Virginia and Ohio University-Athens.

The University of Iowa came in at 12th.

2. Hmm. My daughter will be a freshman there this fall.
I knew that UI had moved up the party ladder but I didn't know it was that high.

4. Seems to me that UNI was on that list a couple decades ago too
But at a lower rank. Like in the top thirties not pushing the top ten.

9. This Hawkeye is NOT proud!
Edited on Sat Aug-02-08 08:26 PM by chiefofclarinet
Although I may be one of the only people on campus that thinks so (at least that it is what it seems like), I really wish that the U of I was had a lot less parties. It's a great research university with all sorts of great people and activities, but all anybody (especially prospective students) hears about is the party scene and the football team. I am not comparing Hawkeye football to drunken idiots, but I have issues with seeing a great university demeaned by some of its students. I would be more proud of this school if the partying/bar scene decreased, but I know it won't happen any time soon. *sigh*

Edit: I'm not usually this "ranty," but this is a sore spot for me.

11. Thanks!
I've been lurking in the forum for a while, but I finally decided to join. Granted, I wanted my first post to be witty, not ranting, but nothing's perfect.

12. Hi Chief!! and welcome to DU
Sometimes there is nothing better than getting something off your chest, especially if you are passionate about it.

Your putting up the complete picture of the University would make a mother proud! ;) The U of I is one of the great research Universities. And Iowa State is pretty darned good too!!

We have some awesome schools.

13. Welcome to DU and the Iowa Forum, chiefofclarinet!
Sounds like you could use a cold beer. I am sure we could find a party in IC and just slip in.
