Will Marion County Republicans kill satellite voting in 2010?

Earlier this year, Marion County GOP Chairman Tom John and his Republican buddies decided to make it more difficult for county voters to cast a ballot by killing a plan to offer satellite voting in the May Primary Election.

While John's hand-picked appointee to the Marion County Election Board -- attorney P.J. Dietrick -- insisted that Republicans opposed the plan because of concerns over ballot security (FYI: He failed to offer examples of any alleged security problems), what he failed to mention was the real reason that Republicans opposed satellite voting -- fear of being trounced at the polls by Democrats.

Case in point: In the 2008 General Election, nearly 40,000 Marion County voters cast ballots at satellite voting sites and Barack Obama, as well as other Democratic candidates, won by overwhelming margins.

On Wednesday, Marion County Clerk Beth White outlined an initial plan to resurrect satellite voting for the November General Election. Not surprising, her proposal met with some strong resistance from the GOP's Dietrick who took issue with the idea that satellite voting was a "necessity."

1. Since when has it NOT been
an objective of the Republicans to suppress voting
where they do not have the ability to intimidate the
voters?
