Guide to close in June
Guide to close in June
Over 1,400 local employees to lose jobs

Lindsay Whitehurst
The Herald Bulletin

One of Anderson’s largest employers, and General Motors supplier Guide Corp., will shut down all its Anderson operations by June 2007.

“Despite efforts to turn around the Guide operations and meet the growing competitive needs of its customer, Guide concluded that it was in the best interests of its stockholders and customers to begin an orderly wind down of its operations,” Joe Ruffolo, executive vice-president of Human Resources, said Wednesday.

About 1,325 people work at its taillight plant located at 2915 Martin Luther King Boulevard, Ruffolo said. The shut down will also include the company’s technology and customer support center in Pendleton, which has about 150 employees, and the Monroe, La., operations, which employ 675 people.

At shift change on Tuesday afternoon, workers had plenty to say, but few wanted to talk. Rumors of a shut down have been swirling for months.

I worked there for three years in the mid '90's supporting new model builds for Engineering. They talked about how to keep it open then. There is now only one small GM plant left in Anderson. This town is the Flint, MI of Indiana. :(

I will be moving out of Anderson in March BTW. Don't know what will keep the city going. Once GM retirement money is gone, what will be left? Very sad.

1. Ouch.
:( So sorry to hear what's happening to your town, WakeMeUp!

Are you still teaching? Has that situation gotten any better?
How's the little lady? :)

4. Things are going pretty well.
Yes, still teaching all 835 darling (most of the time) children!

We are doing well, to be honest. We are building a house nearer to where I teach. Can you believe she will start Kindergarten next Fall? Living in the district means I can take her with me. She wants to go now! :)

Hope things are well w/ you! :hi:

6. Wonderful!
You had such a stressful time there for awhile, I'm glad things are better for you!! :)

Things are still the same here: not great, not sucky. They just are.

2. Indiana's cities
I used to travel the entire state before the client base of my small business disappeared. Excluding the North Indy, Fishers, Carmel, Noblesville, Zionsville area and some neighborhoods up around Valpo-Chesterton, most of Indiana's cities are in dire straights.

On a slightly different subject I just thought of a pretty good slogan for the upcoming time change; The republican time change, it's time to set your watches back one hour, and your calenders back eight centuries

7. sorry to hear this
I lived in Anderson in the late 80s , and my grandson still lives there.

I found it to be a very conservative and uptight community, but I also have some fond memories .
