A funny thing happened to me today.

I was at the Student Commission meeting today when the president of the college SIFE (Students in Free Enterprise) club approached me. Now, everyone on that campus knows me, if not by name, as "the College Democrats guy", right? So, dude tells me about a forum he's putting together on Social Security privatization, and he wants the College Democrats to participate. I'm thinking this is going to be a debate-type thingy, so I ask if he wants us to present an anti-privatization POV. He's like, oh no, this isn't a debate, we're just having our congressman, Don Manzullo (who's a pro-privatization Repug of the worst kind) and the Edward Jones people come and talk to young people about what they should invest in, blah blah blah, yackety schmackety. He said that since there's a Republican Congress and a Republican President, it's going to pass, so that's why they're doing it. I told him it's no sure thing, and that if he wants the College Democrats to participate in his little event, it's going to be to present an alternate POV to the Republican line, and if he wouldn't acquiesce, then he could kiss off. And I left. Anyway, this just had me so pissed, I felt like venting. Thank you for your time. :D

You need a speaker like him to give balance. He did a good job of defining the difference between them and us. It's too bad he wasn't elected in his run against Weller.

That's so absurd. You should counter by saying you are holding a forum on the new minimum wage law that just passed. Tell him you are inviting Congressman Lane Evans, someone from Blago's campaign and the staff of your cafeteria to come in and talk about what a great thing raising the minimum wage will be for our state. Tell him that since we have a Democratic governor and a Democratic Stage General Assembly, it IS a done deal, so he would be wise to hop on board.

Or maybe a forum on the new gay-rights legislation passed in this state?

4. He's a total asshat.

I so badly wanted to punch him in the face for daring to suggest such a thing. Either he's extraordinarily brave, or really, really ignorant to ask a Democrat to sign on to a pro-Social Security privatization thing. Another idea someone gave me was to pass out literature on what privatization is REALLY about as people come into the event. That would work as well. I dunno about inviting Congressman Evans, since this thing is supposed to be in a week or two, so it might be too late. If I'd known further in advance, I'd definitely do it. If anyone else has any suggestions on how to sabotage this thing, I'd love to hear them! :D
