3. Keyes should hold off on the gubernatorial race and --
-- wait instead for something more appropriate.

Like the next host of Family Feud.

8. Keyes
They say believe half of what you see...believe considerably less of what you read in Sneed.

The IL Constitution requires one to be a resident for three years prior to holding the office of governor.

The person who wins will be sworn in two years from not -- Krazy Allen won't have been here that long.

9. Amend for Alan!
I say we amend the Illinois constitution so that Alan can run. This will ensure that a Democrat remains in the Governor's Office.

10. Please let it be true
He can't believe he would win the primary, but even his presence in the primary could hurt the other Republican candidates.

11. Wouldn't that be great?
I fear that would be Blagoyevich's only chance at winning a second term. I think if LaHood runs it will be another republican governor.

I wonder if we can convince George Ryan that all has been forgiven and he should run again... lol

17. Not sure.
I don't think he's going to get much support for president, he eroded a lot of his base right here. He really upset the unions in Illinois, and without their support I don't see him having much of a chance at a local OR national campaign.

15. Pay attention, folks....
Sun-Times gossip maven Michael Sneed leads her column today thus:
Heeee's baaack! Rumble is former Republican U.S. Senate candidate/nightmare Alan Keyes is eyeing a bid for governor. He's conducting the first meeting of his "Cook County United" gathering of 40 to 50 of Cook County's best conservative activists in his Loop office tonight!
Several readers have noticed echoes in this presentation of yesterday's Illinois Leader article, " He's Baaack: Keyes to hold initial Cook County United meeting tomorrow," that included the phrase that "many are privately concerned that Keyes may form an exploratory committee to run for Governor."

But as Capitol Fax publisher Rich Miller points out, what Sneed, the Leader and concerned, rumbling Republicans fail to realize is that Article V, Section 3 of the Illinois Constitution requires that to hold statewide office, a person must have been "a resident of this State for the three years preceding his election."

One of Miller's readers observes that this requirement not only eliminates Keyes from becoming governor (he didn't move to Illinois until August, 2004, and the election will be in November, 2006) but it also eliminates former Chicago schools chief Paul Vallas, who now lives in Philadelphia.
