There is so much snow outside. I don't now how my girlfriend and I are going to get her car out of her parking spot. It should be a challenge and I'm sure I'll have more to add to this conversation come 6:00pm when we are actually going to try. For now, I'm making dinner to store up some energy for the big dig.

2. where art thou? so far, our dc area snow is quite manageable
I'm even going to smoke two pork butts overnight to make pulled pork tomorrow cuz I'm virtually certain I'll be able to get off my street and over to a friend's house. How's that for confidence?

We might get a wee bit more tomorrow, but it should be fine.

11. we are almost neighbors...
It is eerie. The only noise outside is the plows every few hours and the wind. It is apocalyptic.

5. Earlier in the week
my commute home that usually takes 15 mins. took 2 1/2 hours. The roads were a sheet of ice. I should'nt complain, a woman I work with left at 2pm and got home at 2am. Her normal commute time is 40 mins.

8. Long Island
They are saying we could get up to 24 inches. Husband is in FLORIDA. I am all alone with my daughter. I have no clue how I am going to shovel our big driveway. Anybody got a snowblower?

9. No way of knowing right now
Probably about 10" here in River West/East Ukrainian Village. It's hard to tell with all the blowing and drifting, though. Total whiteout conditions that blow right in when I open the door. The cats are running away from the door instead of trying to get out.

Supposed to get more lake effect snow in the city all evening, they just said on Channel 7. Wind chills of -20 tonight. I hope no one here has to go anywhere.

12. We went to Shedd Aquarium today
Friends of mine from Iowa (who got caught in the snow on the way over here). Had to dig my car out of the parking lot to get to the train station, then the taxi we took in town was nice and soggy...and since Shedd is RIGHT ON THE LAKE, the wind was fierce. Here's what the city looked like from one of the windows:

Then, more snow got dumped by the afternoon, so we had to wait in ankle deep snow for taxis that didn't materialize for twenty minutes, after which they slid around much on the streets...and when we got back to the train station in Zion, I had to dig out my car. Again.

We were going to hit Gino's East in Libertyville for yummy deep dish. Now we're waiting for Domino's to arrive at the apartment, where it's nice and toasty.

But it wasn't a total loss, I got to see penguins acting goofy:

13. Oh, yeah
the far north suburbs mostly missed everything after the morning blitz. Maybe 10" total since yesterday evening. Small blessing.

15. Once had a car in front of me do a 360 on the bridge.........
that's the intersection of the Dan Ryan and the Stevenson.

I swear, he just missed me by inches.

I really don't have any horror stories. I enjoy Winter.
