Governor assigns his aide to probe Mell's charge
Donations-for-jobs allegation at issue

Gov. Rod Blagojevich has asked his executive inspector general to review allegations that a campaign official traded appointments to state boards and commissions for sizable campaign contributions.

But aides to the governor emphasized that he does not believe there was wrongdoing.

"We wanted to make sure they were aware of these allegations and accusations and asked them to review it," said Cheryle Jackson, Blagojevich's spokeswoman.

The charge was leveled last week by an unlikely source: the governor's father-in-law, Chicago Ald. Richard Mell.
