Stop GA: Bibles in Classroom/ 10 Cmdts in Courthouse
I was asked to crosspost this in the GA forum.

SIGN THIS PETITION to Gov. Perdue!

http://ga3.org/campaign/ga_bible?rk=ud%5fGizS16mrxE

". . .in Georgia legislature passed a bill earlier this week that will create state-funded Bible classes in Georgia public schools. And just a few days later, they passed legislation that will put the Ten Commandments in county buildings. Both bills are now headed to Governor Sonny Perdue for final approval.

Georgia needs to know that we're watching and will do whatever it takes to stop these blatant assaults on the separation of church and state. Don't waste a minute -- click here to tell Gov. Perdue to veto these bills.

For years we've known that the religious right will stop at nothing to push their theology in the public square. These aggressive efforts in Georgia show that the religious right is only getting bolder.

The Bibles in schools bill is particularly shocking. The bill includes a requirement that the Bible act as the core textbook for these new courses, which is clearly unconstitutional. You might remember that a federal judge last year ordered Georgia's Cobb County school district to remove stickers from science books that questioned evolution. The court ruling was an important victory for science. However, the passage of these bills once again puts Georgia in the crosshairs of the religious right's assault on our Constitution. "

2. I am going to get clobbered here but
We geographically are slap in the middle of the Bible Belt. The repukes have so many people believing that we Democrats, by wanting people to have the right to choose in their beliefs of religion, Abortion, or any thing else, appear to be anti Christian. By protesting this so vehemently we appear to the masses that we want to suppress the Bible and its teachings. I just think that this fight divides Democrats from a huge group of people that believe in the Bible. Including some Democrats.

The repukes have convinced most churches that Democrats are anti christianity and want nothing more than the name God stricken from everything. The thing these people don't understand is no one wants them to change their beliefs, hell it doesn't matter what they believe to me. These people think that schools are teaching everything but christianity and that its the Democrats fault.

I see this mentality every day. This is just a thought please don't kill me. Believe it or not it makes no difference to me what they teach on the subject, its my responsibility to teach my kids what to believe in that regard.

3. It's not clobberin' time.
I will say, though, that the right wingers here in GA will never respect us if we don't fight back.

That doesn't have to mean being disrespectful of devout Christian beliefs (why would we? most GA dems are Christians...), but sitting and letting the Right cram down this feelgood crap in lieu of actual legislative work gets us nothing.

4. I agree
But we have to choose our battles wisely, the emotions on both sides of this particular issue are penitentially devastating to our numbers. I'm sick of being stepped on by the repukes. I don't believe schools should be teaching anything that offends people. Especially when our test scores are below acceptable levels in science and math. The need to be educating, not preaching. I would be interested in seeing the curriculum they plan to use. Timing is key if we stir the pot before the elections it could cost us. Just my thoughts.
