Aftermath of Central Florida tornado damage.
Edited on Fri Feb-02-07 12:48 PM by The Backlash Cometh
New home construction failed the test. Frame houses with 12-16 inch spaces between the ceiling braces, stripped of their outer shell; aluminium supports twisted as easily as plastic swivel sticks and the death toll rising.

Does anybody suspect a class action suit coming out of this that might actually put pressure against our powerful real estate industry?

1. I am no expert but...
I believe those structures would survive a hurricane but not a Tornado. Any reports about the wind strength?? I do believe it will put pressure on the builders since housing is getting so expensive.

2. The Florida Building Codes were designed

to withstand hurricane force winds up to 150 MPH. The construction industry has been living up to that standard. But a tornado is a different kind of annimal. We are talking winds in excess of 200 MPH. There is no way to construct anything to withstand those force winds short of digging a bunker. I seriously doubt there will be any serious lawsuits as a result of this disaster.

3. Tornado VS Wood frame = Tornado every time.
Solid concrete will be ok. Wood frame not so much.
