New Quinnipiac Poll: Florida Governor's Race now in Dead Heat!
October 23, 2006

Quinnipiac Poll: A Dead Heat Now

Quinnipiac University released a new poll Monday that shows the race for governor has narrowed to a statistical dead heat with Democrat Jim Davis showing dramatic gains among independent voters.

Headed into the first statewide debate between the two candidates, Crist has 46 percent and Davis 44 percent, with eight percent undecided.
The poll says 11 percent of voters might change their mind before Election Day. In the space of two weeks, Crist's 50-43 lead among independents has evaporated and Davis now leads among independents, 50 to 36 percent. (The poll was taken Oct. 18-22, 816 likely voters, MOE +/-3.4 percentage points).

As voters focus on the race, Davis is quickly making a stronger impression with voters, the poll shows. Two weeks ago, 57 percent said they didn't know enough about Davis to have an opinion. In this poll, that figure is 23 percent.

"The Florida governor's election is now a real horse race," said Quinnipiac's Peter Brown.

1. I Just Checked The CQ Poll And It Shows It With Crist Up By Only
2 points!! This is a huge leap for Davis. I MUST make a comment here though. Locally in Cruella's District I see very little advertisement for Davis.... I don't even have a bumper sticker, however I did just get a yard sign. Maybe he didn't have enough money, I don't know.... but this is one District that should be watched. Christine Jennings is still ahead and Shapiro seems to be picking up local Repuke support from former candidates who ran against Buchanan!

Davis should be doing more here. I do realize that it may have been written off because of The Witch Cruella, but we "might" squeak by. While I'm not crazy about Jennings, I do really like Shapiro and have talked with him several times. We all have butterflies when it comes to his race and wonder how it will finally end. There is so little trust in our voting machines here and it's one of the reasons for so much anxiety.

4. It shows that taking the high road does win.
Crist has had that obnoxious negative ad about Jim's attendance record going pretty regular in the Tampa area. While Jim has had ads that only attack Crist on his policies. There are a number of issues that Jim's campaign could have used to attack Crist. However, it seems they chose best.

6. Davis & Crist now in dead heat: Women, Independents favor Davis
Here

The last Quinnipiac poll on Oct. 10 had Crist with a 10 point lead, 53-43 percent. So Davis hasn’t gained much ground, but a chunk of Crist’s support shifted to undecided.

There’s a striking gender gap in the poll, notes Peter Brown, assistant director of the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute. Men back Crist 56-34 percent. Women support Davis 54-38 percent. The other notable break is among independents, who now side with Davis 50 percent to 36 percent.

Also important is that Davis gained over the last 2 weeks, while Crist lost support, despite the GOP mega $$$$$ blanketing the airwaves.

What is also supremely significant is as voters focus on the race, Davis is quickly making a stronger impression with voters, the poll shows. Two weeks ago, 57 percent said they didn't know enough about Davis to have an opinion. In this poll, that figure is 23 percent.

This is stellar news! Instead of the gop-ers wanting to know "where was Jim", maybe they should notice that grille in the rearview mirror.
