Florida Democrats quickly going through their cash
By BRENT KALLESTAD, Associated Press
July 27, 2004

TALLAHASSEE — In a year when Florida is again measured as a critical battleground in the presidential race, the state Democratic Party is again struggling financially.

With Election Day now just 14 weeks away, the Florida Democratic Party has $105,000 in the bank and is spending as fast as it can.

"That's our goal," state chairman Scott Maddox said Monday in a phone conversation from the floor of the Democratic convention in Boston. "We're spending it just as quickly as we bring it in and won't have any money left over in November."

Maddox has added to the paid staff since taking over as chairman last year.
