Carper, in my opinion, is becoming more and more like the replacement for Zell Miller as the Bush "Democrat". With him supporting Bush's SS plan, I'm having a really tough time wanting to give any support to him in his 2006 re-election campaign.

I mean, if he got the nomination, I'd vote for him simply because I don't want a repuke in the seat. But damnit, is Delaware that hard-up to find decent democrats who will actually give some challenge in the Primaries? What about Jack Markell - he's done will in statewide races, why doesn't he run for US Senate.

2. The problem in Delaware is there are no other choices
This state's democratic party is so wrapped up it's like the democrats know who's going to run for what office even 20 years down the line. It's all sort of a sucession thing here.

Carper was first US Representative (we only have 1 in delaware) while Republican Gov. Mike Castle was governor. When Castle was on term limits he and Casey swapped positions because Biden & Bill Roth had the senate seats sewn up. After Casey's terms limits came up for governor, he ousted Bill Roth. There really isn't too many statewide viable repuke candidates outside of Mike Castle and maybe Bill Lee (but he has still lost for the few times he's run for governor). When Carper was done being senator, his Lt. Governor Ruth Ann Minner took over. When she's done in 2008 I'm sure her Lt. Governor John Carey will take over. Joe Biden will probably be replaced one day by his son Beau Biden, no one will ever challenge Mike Castle and Treasurer Jack Markell is just waiting his time until they get him in this cycle of offices.

Seriously - this is like a redneck family tree - everyone is related to everyone else politically which leaves very little room for fresh blood in Delaware
