Anyone in Gordo or nearby? Status of PCH repair?
I'm watching the Ca. Dot website for any news but maybe someone local will have news before they do. I'm planning a trip up the coast and would love to take PCH if they manage to get one lane open. As it is I will take the 46 to the 101 and then Nacimiento-Fergusson Road back to PCH.

1. I have no info, but you could call one of the local businesses, for example the
Ragged Point Inn, and ask them about driving in from the north. They're probably pretty on top of it.

Also, if you take Nacimiento-Ferguson remember that you'll be crossing the military base, so be sure to have your DL, registration, and proof of insurance. And get your brakes checked - it's not my favorite descent in that direction... :)

2. I will do this, thanks for the idea.
Stupid of me not to think of that. I have read about Nacfer and am aware of the base. I'm hoping there will be no maneuvers that day but will have my papers handy.

3. If you're looking for a hotel to spend the night
you should check out the Hearst hacienda next to Mission San Antonio. It was designed by Julia Morgan, the same architect that designed the Hearst Castle.

It's on the base (Fort Hunter-Liggett) but rooms are rented to civilians on a space-available basis (and I've never seen it full). Nothing fancy, but it's interesting to spend the night where WWH and his guests would hang out.

And it's relatively cheap. Ask for a Tower Room. Bring some groceries -- there's nowhere around to get a bite to eat.

The Ferguson-Nacimiento Road is very pretty but rough in spots. That area is quite lovely.

4. Thanks but my destination is further north.
But thanks for the tip. I will keep this idea for future use.

5. Here's an update on the slide - looks like a mid-June re-opening is the plan...
