And you have to see the Fisherman's Wharf and Golden gate part.
If your old like me the first place I wanted to see was Haight/Ashbury

4. When are you here?
Week of the 21st will be the best beach weather (only beach weather, actually) of the year. Baker Beach is where locals go.

It's a great walk from Union Square to North Beach via Grant Avenue -- takes you down the heart of Chinatown. I like to hang out in North Beach cafes and watch the world pass by.

Interesting shops on Union Street on Cow Hollow. Also Chestnut Street (Marina) and Fillmore Street from Bush to about Jackson.

Alcatraz is a fantastic tour -- be sure to buy tickets in advance.

If you want to escape for a day, rent a car and visit the Napa Valley. It's beautiful this time of year. It's also crush time.

Seven day Muni passports (to ride S.F. public transportation): http://128.121.89.101/cms/mfares/passports.htm.

As posted elsewhere, there are great museums in Golden Gate Park. Modern art at SOMA. Classic art at the Palace of Legion of Honor in Lincoln Park.

Enjoy! :hi:

5. The Tut exibit is at the DeYoung Museum.
The Academy of Sciences is also worth a visit, as much for the building itself, as it is an amazing example of green architecture, as for the exhibits. Both are in Golden Gate Park. The Exploratorium is also worth a visit- if you don't have a kid with you check to see when their evening hours are for unaccompanied adults. It's also sited in a park with the loveliest views on that side of the bay, with the Golden Gate and the Marin headlands to the north and the Painted Ladies to the south, with a lovely pond and the Palace of Fine Arts in the middle.

I gave an out of state visitor the tour a while back and her favorite thing was eating and shopping in Chinatown. Even if eating and shopping aren't your two favorite things (said visitor is in her teens) I still suggest stopping by for cheap, non-tacky gifts to bring home and equally cheap food.

6. We plan to be there next Sunday.
Just for the day, as we are staying in Monterey. I can hardly wait for the drive up. I'm so exited! I've become adicted to Highway 1. Anyways, we will drive up and spend Sunday in the city.
