When is Spring in Death Valley?
I've lived in Calif for 41 years without visiting. We're getting some rain too, this year.

1. Depends, but I generally shoot for Feb or March.
Except for the high country. And I don't like heat. It is wise to check the "conditions" before you go.

2. Mid March is when I've been there
Temp in the 80's. Careful, you can get hooked on that place!

3. Thanks, that's about when we will go
maybe since we're relatively close, Coachella Valley, we will probably have a good idea of the weather Joshua Tree NP is near to us, and will be spectacular this year since even we got rain this year.

5. Funny you should mention it
Just got home from DV TONITE! I do work for an event company that puts on trail races and triathalons and we had a great race at Titus Canyon. The pictures I took are stunning. There's snow in the mountains right now and the yellow flowers (called, "desert gold") are all in bloom. It was a little cooler than last year at this time, 68 degrees at most, but not bad. It sure was a nice break from the rain. Summer is when the Europeans seem to like it best, and the hotel rooms fill up; right now is considered the off-season. We did go through a snowstorm in the Tehachapi Mountains on the way home today, though.
By all means, get yourself over there! Death Valley is a national treasure. There is no place like this on Earth.

7. Few places are more beautiful (or fragrant)
than the SoCal desert in the spring after winter rains. Lived in Palm Spring many years ago. To see the desert floor turn purple from the verbena and breathe in the fragrance was a little bit of paradise.

8. I'm jealous
spring in DV is one of the prettiest things in the country (IMHO)

Unfortunately I don't think I'll be back to Ca for a few years. :(

9. I'll be heading down there during the second week in March, I think....
Not to DV though, but rather to Saline Valley just adjacent to it. :hi:
