Progressive Pages- Need your feedback!
Edited on Thu Nov-04-04 09:38 PM by fudge stripe cookays
I just visited DancingBear's thread about wanting to come up with a directory of Repuke businesses to boycott and provide decent progressive alternatives for folks.

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=104&topic_id=2587076&mesg_id=2587076&page=

I'd like to help any way I can to compile this book.

Here's what I need from ya'll:

Give me the names and approximate locations of any local AZ businesses you saw the last year or so with Bush/Cheney signs outside, behind the counters or in windows. Any "I support President Bush and our troops?" or anything equivalent?

Alternately, provide the names and approximate addresses of progressive or Democratic owned or Democratic-supporting businesses you can recommend instead.

Let us know about good AND bad experiences you've had patronizing good or bad businesses all over the state!

Thanks everybody!
Let's hear em!

3. Basha's is a grocery store chain here that is owned by a Dem
and they are valley wide www.bashas.com

great alternative to the Safeway/Albertson's mega stores

also DJ's liquor and smoke shops have Kerry stickers on the door of the store in Mesa. They have a great smoke shop next door with pipes and cigars and hookahs and such

5. wow, plate of shrimp
(if you know what that's from you get an extra bonus point)

Just made the decision to chuck the old gas range, need a new (or clean, working used???) cheap range. Nothing fancy just big enough to cook a huge turkey once in a while and bake stuff. (though if it was mouse proof I would pay extra for that!!!) You are a long ways away but I may head to Phx soon and just because you are not one of THEM I might be willing to head out to (geez, WEST BELL road??) your place and check it out.

8. Hey chitty...
What city is your store in?

You might want to add that to your banner ad, if you plan on using it outside the immeidate area too. =)

9. i think it's a really great idea to keep track of liberal businesses
the right have been doing it for years with their little fish symbols - it's time we watch where our money goes. i've found several major corp listings - but nothing local. the left has money too.

i know i was surprised when i saw alice cooper plugging away for the gop.

12. Roses & More Inc, Tucson - Good Guy -
http://www.tucsonweekly.com/gbase/currents/Content?oid=oid:60086

From that Tucson Weekly article:
""PUBLISHED ON SEPTEMBER 2, 2004:

T Q&A

By JOHN BANKS
John Banks
Steven W. Schwartz
If you're one of the thousands of motorists who have driven by one of the area's three Roses & More stores in the last several months, you've probably noticed the political messages that owner Steven Schwartz has been posting. If you're not inclined to give George W. Bush a second term in the White House, you've probably looked forward to seeing what this businessman and U.S. Army veteran comes up with next.""

End Quote.

This guy sticks his neck out even though he has lost some business for speaking his mind.
