Alaska Campaign Finance Reform Initiative - 2006 Ballot
From AK PIRG:

"On November 19th, Lt. Governor
Loren Leman certified that the Campaign
Finance Reform AGAIN! Initiative
will be on the 2006 ballot.

<snip>

Since 1996, Alaska has had
some of the most progressive campaign
finance reform laws in the nation. In
2003, the legislature doubled those limits
in a bill that originally sought to demolish
the Alaska Public Offices Commission.
All 34 of the incumbents in state
House and Senate races in the recent
2004 election won. This shows the
power of incumbency and why those
who chose to double the limits desired
to increase the advantage of their incum-
bency.

“If we can succeed in overturning
the new legislative changes, we’ll be
back to one of the best campaign finance
laws in the nation,” stated David
Finkelstein, former legislator and one of
the sponsors of the original Campaign
Finance Reform NOW initiative in 1995.

-----------

This would roll back the 2003 Legislative changes that doubled the contribution limit (and thus helped large corporations fill the coffers of ultra-development legislators.) I'm not sure what the contribution limit is now, but I have heard that $500 was the old limit (and thus $1000 the current limit). This would give parity to campaigning and in my opinion help Democrats make gains in the legislature.
