4. There's 80,000 votes for Edwards
the last time I checked CNN...You think there's that many of us tonight at DU?

That's your answer?

6. Over 100,000 people have voted in the MSNBC and in the CNN polls.
100,000 in EACH poll. How the hell can DUers even make a dent in popular opinion on that scale??? And wouldn't the Freepers kind of counter DUing?

7. I think there are way too many responses for that to be the case
I really think a lot of people saw the debate and just liked Edwards better.

2. I would say Edwards won/it was a draw
But I was only half listening, so perhaps he DEFINITELY won. I do remember Cheney responding at least twice with nothing more than "the record speaks for itself" after Edwards clearly laid out what that record says, but those were only two moments.

Anyway, I think the online poll thing could be explained by the number of lefty sites posting all the links so people can vote. Grass roots efforts to control the spin, baby!

Then again, perhaps the right is doing that too. Anyway, point is those polls don't really mean much.

3. No I think we look at it differently
Through a more critical filter. I thought JE did really well and won the debate on the issues, but of course I was frustrated that he didn't attack Halliburton boy enough on some of his more blatant lies. The average viewer might put more importance on stylistic differences and personality, where John has a clear advantage. I have no problem with that, if he won on that, so be it.

5. It CAN'T be just DU
There's way too many responses and Edwards is so far ahead!

Honestly, I thought Edwards did a great job, but not a knockout like Kerry v. Bush. But then, it's really apples and oranges, isn't it?

8. I'm calling it a draw/lean Edwards...
but I've heard that FReepers are voting Edwards to discredit the poll results, making them look so insane that they aren't worth discussing.

10. Exactly...CNN poll is prime example
Edwards has over 80,000 votes in a poll that has over 100,000 votes. That is a poll that the couple thousand here on DU cant even influence. The american people overwhelmingly liked Edwards more. We are just much more critical...the best example I can give is when I used to go see Phish on tour...as diehard fans we used to criticize their performances - compare to other nights and such...but each show was phenomenal. And I remember my first show (out of 17), I was blown away by their music and talent and performance, because I didnt really know what to expect. Each show was special in itself. We, as partisans take sometimes TOO close inspection of those we count on to deliver, just as the diehard phishkids did. Take a step back. Forget everything you've ever known about edwards...remember the first time you saw edwards - he didnt sy anything much different tonight than when we all first heard him in the primaries. THAT is the John Edwards undecideds that are just now getting to know this man saw tonight, and he did superbly well, and the polls show it.

14. Well said
Plus, many ordinary merrikans simply don't know, as we do, the full extent of Cheney's evil nature. We wanted Blood, and we wanted lots of it.

I think Edwards did a good job. Yes he could have skwered Dick a little more, but as we saw, Cheney just spouts the lies with such indifferent ease, and all the talking heads call him "well prepared". :puke:
Much better, i think, to talk UP JK than to spend the whole time bashing crashcart.

That wasn't going to happen. Expectations were too high.

16. Internet polling
I don't trust it.

There are ways to vote multiple times so I've heard.

But I am dunce with computers and wouldn't stoop to something that low.

Freepers would, not us.

18. Here's the problem: liberals are picky
Liberals want perfection and Edwards wasn't perfect. Also, the contrast with Cheney wasn't as great as between Kerry & Bush. So, their dissatisfaction comes out as thinking Cheney won. I, too, wish Edwards had answered some questions differently, but I think Edwards won.
