Taking back the Senate: The South shall rise again
We are on track to take the Senate back, thanks in large part to Democrats doing well in four of the five seats in the South being vacated by Democrats. We are leading in Louisiana, South Carolina, Florida and North Carolina. The only one we are behind in is Georgia.

Plus, it looks like we will pick up all three of the seats being vacated by Republicans -- Colorado, Illinois and Oklahoma.

And the cherry on this cake is that we are ahead in Alaska. And now Tom Daschle has a lead in South Dakota.

If all this holds up, the Senate will be 52-48 (counting Jeffords as a Democrat). And who knows, maybe even Lincoln Chafee will switch. It's hard to see how he can stay in the GOP having said he is not voting for Bush.

1. Don't be surprised if the House goes Dem, too.
The polls are unequal to the task of what's happening on the ground. Bush and many other Republicans are apt to find out that they've lost their jobs in a month. :)

2. I will be very surprised
We'd hear air raid alarms coming from Republican HQ if there was a possibility of a chance that the House could fall.

7. But they are working with the polls, my friend.
You know. The polls that haven't yet been able to take into account the huge number of newly registered voters. Let's see where we are in a couple of weeks. I think that you'll be pleasantly surprised. :)

3. I've been saying that in here for more than a month
And people have been pooh-poohing it as impossible.

I'm even convinced that we can defeat Tom DeLay.

8. They pooh-poohed you?
Well, I'm usually not one to criticize others' personal habits, but that seems excessive to me. I wonder what they'll do in a couple of weeks when the newly registered voters begin showing up in the polling data? They'll be pooh-poohing elsewher methinks. :)

11. Jan Judy will win AR-3rd
congressional district. She is HAMMERING a right-wing rubberstamp for DeLay who has only introduced 8 pieces of legislation in the past 3 years! I'm going to a political meeting today to rouse more support for her!

And she appreciates support from DUers. Check out her website at:

12. Well, I was going to go for the comedic answer...
...and say that I didn't know that AR *had* representatives. But with eight pieces of legislation in three years, it doesn't sound like you *do* have any. Good luck to Ms. Judy. Hope she wins in a rout! :)

16. Actually, 3 out of 4 congresspeople
in Arkansas are Democrats. Both our Senators are Democrats. Only the 3rd Congressional District is, and has been, Republican for decades. Last time, the Democrats didn't even mount a challenger<\i> to Boozman, which infuriated me. Jan Judy has a real chance. Anyone out there from a solid blue state that wants to really help get another Dem in congress should check her out at:

4. Feels Good To Be Back Looking At Those Races
I've been pushing for Democrats to work hard on the Senate and especially the Congressional races. I'm in a district where we hope to send a long-time incumbent packing and send a Progressive Democrat in a district right next door to Dennis Bastard. Things are looking good here, but we keep working here like we're 20 points down with 24 hours left.

The key is the House, as our greatest woes started in '94 and won't end until we send DeLay, Hastert, Blunt and the rest of those slimeballs to the back benches. Then we can start dismantling to mess this regime created (Patriot act, tax cuts for the rich) and restore civility to our representative government.

The good news is we're seeing the real election starting to shape up on these races, and it doesn't look good for the GOOP.

I strongly suggest to my fellow DU'ers, if you're in a blue state or a safe district and you have either a few bucks or some time you can donate, find a congressional or senate race that is in play and get involved. This is what Gingrich did in '94...it's our turn now.

Cheers!

5. Those of us here in GA need to hit the stump for Majette - Isakson
is an IDIOT! Even my Republican friends hate him. Denise just has no money - she's campaigning the old fashioned way.

6. Good news in those Senate races
I don't see how we win the House. There just aren't enough winning districts.

10. I find it hard to believe we have much chance of retaking the House
That doesn't bother me too much, though. I'll gladly settle for retaking the White House and the Senate.

That brace yourself for endless hearings on the "failures" of the Kerry Administration.

17. NM update
Our senators aren't going to change, neither of them are up for election. Bingaman's good, Domenici's lousy. On the House races. Udall (Dist. 3) seat seems to be safe, and D3 includes Santa Fe, so he should win in a rout. He's a really nice guy with a great record, so I hope he does. Dist 1, Albq and vicinity, is a true swing city, and Richard Romero lost to Heather Wilson 45-55 in '02, but I think he might win this time. Gary King's going to have a tough time in Dist 2 which is really conservatice, but incumbent Steve Pearce is really a loony who's been against every hate crime legislation since Rodney King, so Gary may yet pull it off. If that happens, NM will have 3 Democratic congresspeople, one Dem senator, a Dem Governor and a Dem controlled state house and senate!

18. About Louisiana: I hope the article is correct, but I wouldn't count on
Edited on Sun Oct-03-04 01:26 PM by 4_year_nightmare
David Vitter (Rep.) losing. The only hope I have that Chris John could overtake him is if there will be a runoff between him & Vitter. Another thing: Usually before presidential elections there are lots of signs up here, particularly in the upper-scale neighborhood next to mine. I haven't seen ONE sign up: none for the coWard & none for Kerry. Either there are some who are quietly supporting the coWard but ashamed to openly proclaim it, or the "have mores" are secretly supporting Kerry but don't want their elitist friends to know.

Secondly, I'm hoping the people here are fed up with this inept administration & the neo-con movement & will wash their hands of voting for any Republican. That would make it easier for Chris John to get elected. Vitter is a voracious lapdog for the coWard's policies.
