"the government would sell insurance, although the Congressional Budget Office forecasts
that premiums for it would be more expensive than for policies sold by private companies."

Is this the public option? If so, sweeet.

1. I've read that too and not understood it. Why? Because the patient pool who
currently represent uninsured are higher risk patients? Or on purpose, by design, so as to not compete with private insurance (which would also not help holding down costs either)?

5. The CBO is assuming the PO wouldn't screw people for $$$. Really.
That's the reason... a PO wouldn't be carnivorous and would thus cost more.

Probably quite true.

2. It's another sell-out to the insurance companies.
Medicare could be sold for half of what the insurance company policies charge, however, in order to "compete" they have to raise the price so the insurance companies can have "a level playing field". Even so, as overpriced as it is, it's still a good deal with $100 deductible and 20% co-pay as contrary to the $1,000 + deductibles the private insurers offer.

3. Any forecasts on what these policies will cost per month?
Are we talking $500 for an individual? Less? More?

6. Considering that I'm going to be paying $300 a month for my medi-gap
insurance starting in January that only pays 20%, I can only imagine what they will be charging.

8. Check a different company! You can get coverage
that has no deductibles whatsoever. We did. We pay 3900 per year for the two if us..3900.00 divided by 2 = 1950.00 each divided by 12 = 162.50 per month each. We have through American Family.

9. Thanks I'll try that. The enrollment period is coming up and it's time for
me to make some changes.

4. If the theory that the PO forces them to compete with its prices, then that is what SHOULD happen.
Thats the point of the PO.

7. That's the point but now the point is gone. The PO is going to cost
more "to provide a level playing field"; "to be competitive"; "because the risk pool is sicker"; all these excuses have been said by Congressional representatives at one time or the other.
