On a serious note, the Bible does teach that Christians will be tortured for his name sake... tortured? Is that the right word? Anyway, I'd take the verbal over the literal, and I'm betting the Bible was speaking in the literal sense, because the Earth is only 6000 years old, right?

Gandhi, MLK, and the great philosophers throughout history.... One need not view Jesus as a religious figure, nor believe the stories of his birth, death, nor resurrection, to admire the tenets promulgated.

So, if DUers would take offense at extremely derogatory comments re: MLK, or Gandhi, why do they feel the need to do so with regard to Jesus?

That said, moderationis probably in order. After all, "Jesus H. Christ" was one of my late father's favorite exclamatory phrases. I always wanted to know what the "H" stood for.... ;)
