1. Maybe The Charleston (WV) Gazette...
could be friendly to this. It is a VERY progressive newspaper. I would imagine that they would enjoy trumping the Herald Disgrace.

2. And some more advice
Don't talk AT ALL about the idea that it's his son.

You've all been watching their playbook, right? You level a totally true charge that's provable and they'll catch one small supposition in there and disprove it to impeach the whole thing.

We don't know if that's his kid. So don't say it is. The FACT is that the incident was purposefully staged. That's incontrovertable.

Otherwise it's "liberals said it was his son, but here's an alibi, whatever, so we've disproven their whole argument"

11. Ok, then demand that Phil Pharlock press charges against
whoever that is! Why shouldn't he? The photo has been seen by the community so plenty of people should know who that is. Arrest them.

14. now we're getting carried away...
The guy didn't really do anything illegal but grabbing the sign, certainly not in a way that should end up in court.

Pretty soon they'll figure out who he is. If he indeed is the guys son it'll be a nice little story. If not then it's still an example of how the media is being manipulated by right wing activists.

But what would suck is if the entire story is overshadowed by the question of who that guy is. The freeper types or whoever have a real skill at getting the debate framed around an inrellevant question. And our kind has a nasty habit of falling for it.

13. All we should do is point out that Mr. Parlock

exhibits a pattern of behavior: going to Democratic rallies, brandishing GOP signs, and claiming that "Democrats" grabbed his signs and roughed him up, or roughed up others with him. This happened during the presidential campaigns of 1996 and 2000, as well as last week. He takes one or more of his ten children along when he smuggles GOP signs into Democratic rallies.

23. No one needs to make an accusation,
but I think it's fair to ask if Parlock has any relationship to the sign grabber.

3. The same photographer on all stories, IIRC.
Edited on Fri Sep-17-04 04:30 PM by DemBones DemBones
Guy named Randy Snyder, I think.

Edit: Parlock has gotten coverage from at least three different reporters. None of this may be unusual -- local guy who's a publicity-seeker gets coverage from local paper, so what?

But local guy reporting the same type of incidents in which "Democrats" rip signs out of his or his kids' hands in 1996, 2000, and 2004 stretches things a lot.

12. The Herald-Dispatch is planning to do a story Saturday.
http://www.herald-dispatch.com/update.html#BreakingNews...

Campaign sign incident leads to heated national debate

A Bush-Kerry campaign sign yanked from the hands of a 3-year-old and ripped into pieces became the focus of conservative talk radio and liberal bloggers Friday. The question: Did Barboursville resident Phil Parlock stage the event that left his daughter, Sophia, in tears as an Associated Press photographer captured her distress? Is Parlock a serial protester, or maybe even a child abuser for putting his daughter in harm’s way?Or was Parlock merely a Republican exercising his First Amendment rights, set upon by Democratic thugs?

Read the full story in Saturday’s The Herald-Dispatch.

15. Was the photo taken by an AP photographer -- or by

a Herald-Dispatch photographer working as an AP stringer?

(National media, including the wireservices, hire local news photographers as "stringers" to report stories that may merit national publication. They pay well whether they use the photos or not. )

money from flogging that picture..there is an offense here and I know because I'm in the business.

This is basically fraud..setting up a photograph like this and selling it for profit is obtaining money through false pretenses. If the father was in on it they both could face charges and that's why we must not give up on finding out the truth.

All news outlets that carried the picture and story should point out their mistake.

Your search - PHIL PARLOCK+ HERALD DISPATCH - did not match any documents.

Which is strange. I got something before.

22. Here

Randy Snyder, who made the photograph, is the chief photographer of the Herald-Dispatch--the paper that had written previous articles about Parlock's activism--and had to be aware of this man's history of disruption and skirmishes at Democratic events.

I would go so far as to say that Snyder and Parlock worked together to get this shot.

If you want to email your findings to Snyder, here is his contact info:
