3. Read the recent Harper's

I think it's the most recent (September). There's an image of an octopus on the cover. The lead essay goes into how the Right has been building a well-funded network of think tanks, pundits, news organizations, intelligentsia, corporatists, etc., since the early '70s.

I hate to be alarmist, but the Left is way behind when compared to the Right on this. I do doubt that we'll be able to effectively counterbalance this network for years to come. Until we do, we'll be forever finding ourselves pushed out onto the margins of "mainstream" representations of reality.

Air America is an encouraging start, but we need something much more far ranging and we need our own Murdochs of the Left who will help fund an alternative network of liberal/progressive thought.
