Update on crying sign girl
Tri-State news

Campaign sign incident leads to heated national debate

A Bush-Kerry campaign sign yanked from the hands of a 3-year-old and ripped into pieces became the focus of conservative talk radio and liberal bloggers Friday. The question: Did Barboursville resident Phil Parlock stage the event that left his daughter, Sophia, in tears as an Associated Press photographer captured her distress? Is Parlock a serial protester, or maybe even a child abuser for putting his daughter in harm’s way?Or was Parlock merely a Republican exercising his First Amendment rights, set upon by Democratic thugs?

Read the full story in Saturday’s The Herald-Dispatch.

I believe we are the "Liberal bloggers" in question.

1. I have a feeling
This newspaper has been working in cahoots with this family and I don't trust them.

10. Just as a general observation
and not to say anything about this particular reporter--they are ALWAYS nice when they talk to you, and then they go write whatever they damned well please. I've been interviewed by people who were sweet as pie and then they completely trashed me in print. So, don't put too much stock in any reporter's demeanor, per se.

15. i realize this is an insignificant example,
however it is telling of a more ominous reality!

a member of my family, an emergency medical technician, delivered the first baby of a new year.

a reporter chose, for effect, to report as fact that two policemen, who, btw, arrived after the delivery, had delivered the baby, even though the officers vehemently denied, to the reporter, having had any participation.

the rest of the media, press, radio, and tv, picked up on and proliferated that misinformation.

it was an awakening to our naive family, and we have not blindly trusted the media, since.

4. The Herald-Dispatch knows that the photographer is their own Randy Snyder.
Edited on Fri Sep-17-04 06:37 PM by Mary Pat
Why are they referring to him as an AP photographer? I smell a rat. The original Herald-Dispatch article included an AP pic and Snyder's pic of the Parlocks. Is the paper trying to hide its relationship to Snyder in order to make it seem that the photographer wasn't in on the set-up? By the way, this wasn't Snyder's first encounter with Phil Parlock.

5. Yes. I suspect he was working as an AP "stringer"

and stringers' photos are usually credited as "AP photo" or "Time photo," etc., rather than by photographer's name. But we know his name and know he works for the paper, even if he's a stringer for national newsmedia.

7. I have a feeling
that the Herald-Times will go with the second, "thug", story.
It's been exposed on DU that Parlock is active in his town: realtor, school board candidate, Boy Scout leader, and others.

9. Who here believes that a Democrat, anyone for that matter,
would do this to a 3 year old child? And, if it was done, how did the child's father react to it;
how would any father react to it, for that matter? This alleged incident needs investigation!

12. Still wondering if anyone has been able to confirm
that he is a member of the board of his local NAACP, as listed in his profile for School Board. That does not seem right at all.:wtf:

13. Note that there's an item about the local NAACP right below
the teaser about Parlock in the link above. It says that the NAACP chair has worked tirelessly to greatly increase membership.
