Randi Rhodes lost it on air today....
This is the woman who at one point, long ago, said that Keith Olbermann stole her material.
Today, she raved for three hours about his special comment last night, saying dozens of times what an ego he has.
She also took credit for the success of Keith and MSNBC. Later in the show she said that she, Randi, has no ego.

1. I remember when she accused him of using her material without giving credit
But I haven't followed her problem with him since then. It was a while back.

If she commented on his ego, that's kind of humorous since Randi's ego is hefty. You need an ego to make it in their business.

I thought KO was just trying to use his program for the good. You'd think she'd recognize that since she's done it, too.

2. Public meltdowns are so gauche...
Not surprising for Randi G. Rhodes... has no ego? She is so self-absorbed it's ridiculous!

Her show has become less and less about any cause, and more and more about her.

3. I haven't listened to that egotist since she called Hillary a "wh**e"
She is a blowfish who loves the sound of her own voice, hangs up on people who support her, and thinks she is more important than she really is.it is too bad.She actually used to be pretty good. I used to like her, but she has gone waaay over the line. Each to his own, I guess. Some still like her.

8. She's still good when she goes after Republicans and other crooks, but
she's got to stop going after our guys. First Al Franken and now Keith Olbermann. I think she got some kind of snub from both of them. She even said on the air once that Keith Olbermann wouldn't have her on his show. I wonder about the Green Eyed Monster when Rachel got to be on his show. Of course she has a large gay and lesbian following so she can't piss on her own base and going after Rachel would do that.

There are several people I wouldn't spit on if they were on fire, she's one of them.

Nasty woman.......

7. Randi has an extremely fragile self-image
Her bile toward Al Franken and his election to the Senate rivals O'Reilly's. She's usually a great personality and a quick wit, but she needs to leave her baggage at home.

28. Great Pic..lol.. Maybe Randi doesn't have so much bad baggage...
.. as she has a bad manager or a bad adviser. Randi wants to get back up there into the fray.. but whoever is advising her... is not giving her good advice.

Glenn Beck lives by ratings, Keith Oberman lives by ratings, and Randi lives by ratings.. it's the name of the game...

12. Randi has no copyright on the material that both she and Keith used
about this issue. We have been talking about the same thing here on DU, albeit not as eloquently, for as long as DU existed. I will venture to say that they both got their ideas here. The public option idea or offering Medicare to whoever wants it was birthed right here on DU before any politician borrowed it for their campaigns. I for one love that they are going with it because it gives it a national stage. Randi should feel the same.

Haven't listened to her inflated sense of self in 4-5 years, but back when I did occasionally tune in, I always skipped the first 5 minutes of her Friday show. I suppose it was MEANT to be childish and un-sophisticated, but it was also just plane un-interesting too.

...and got disgusted with the Olbermann ranting. A caller tried to question her on this point, and got shouted down for his trouble. When I switched over to Randi again, nearly an hour later, she was still busting on Keith...with no particular basis.

I love Randi's work, but she was taking a sabbatical today.

23. I think the whole Air America thing took its toll......
Randi was on the front lines for a long time. She fought her ass off, and did a kick-ass job. But she took a big hit when she gave up everything in Florida and moved to New York (long Island..WLIR) to do the Air America thing. She got very little in return for all of her efforts and it sucked a lot of energy from her.

I can appreciate that it's not easy jumping into that BIG POND with all the big fishes, but unless you have ever been there, you can't appreciate what a leap-of-faith it is. How many people know friends who went to the Big Apple to break into Theater.. only to end up depressed and waiting tables? Been there.. done that.. got the T-Shirt....

I'm not saying that Randi wasn't a Professional.. what I'm saying.. is that LUCK and CHANCE are two of the biggest unknowns when you deal in the Russian Roulette world of show-biz.. whether its radio, TV or Stage. You can be be the best dancer in the world.. but it may take you 40 years to crack the New York Market.. (just ask Sammi Davis Junior)

Don't mean 'nothin.. just my humble opinion .... I'm sayin'... from someone who spent 40 years bouncing around Radio Stations and Theater groups. I hope Randi bounces back from whatever demon is sitting on her shoulder. She will be back....

36. 2 things: First, Air America was broadcast on WLIB (studios on 34th St),
not WLIR, a TV station on Long Island.

Second, Sammy Davis was working when he was 3 years old, and was a top line nightclub performer right after he got out of the service. He did his first Broadway show in 1956 which was written for him. He had his problems, but those were mostly due to racism.

Here's a wonderful movie of Sammy when he was 6, in a short film called "Rufus Jones for President" (he was Rufus), and the great Ethel Waters as his mom.

39. I guess I'm the only one here who likes her show, but this harping on Keith was
got to even me. Yes, Randi can be caustic, but I like how she informs and educates and she does make me laugh. I don't enjoy when she takes listener calls because she is so insensitive even to people who basically agree with her. I usually listen to the first 20 minutes or so of each hour and skip the part with the phone calls. I o.d'd on her criticism of Keith today. Once she made her point, which she's entitled to do, she should have moved on. Why spend a. Whole show complaining about the one fighting for reform instead of the blue dogs and the Republicans?

She was going on about KO and the ego or whatever and there suddenly was about five minutes of dead air that then led to a commercial break. I was reading something and when it was quiet, I suddenly felt... relaxed... calm after a busy day... the beer tasted good...

Seriously, five minutes of dead air...

She had Howard Dean on the other day. She would not let callers talk directly to him.
She read some of the questions she deemed stupid on air - what was the point.
One email ask if creating another 50 state strategy might help. She called the question stupid.
She's a self-centered twit.

53. I have never been a consistent
listener. I heard her occasionally on AAR a few year back and was not happy w/ her habit of distorting facts, which she sometimes will do. She was great, at first, when Cindy Sheehan was outside the ranch. Even did a few shows from there, as I recall. I drifted away from her show & only read about the uproar she caused during the primary that got her booted. She has only recently been added to LA's KTLK. I only hear her now because she is on right after Hartmann.

She seems to have a hard edge to her attitude. She is quicker w/ the caustic remark; quicker to attack a caller agreeing w/ her (why?). I don't listen far enough into her program to know if she still talks over or interrupts the guests w/ her opinions. (that drove me crazy)

She just seems bitter and there is a real nasty streak coming through. I don't enjoy her at all anymore.

And today is Friday so I have to get to the off button when Hartmann is over so I don't hear a single note that inane 'bounce your boobies' song, which stopped being funny or cute about 20 years ago.
