Newsmax Distances Itself From Coup-Plugging Columnist (FAIL)
Edited on Wed Sep-30-09 11:34 AM by ProSense

In Case You Missed It

Josh Marshall

As noted earlier, Newsmax appears to have taken down its article endorsing a potential military coup as the only way to solve the "Obama problem". But here's the full text of the article as it originally appeared.

As noted previously, the article not only endorsed the idea but seemed to suggest that top military brass were also planning or actively considering such an option.

Late Update: Newsmax is now distancing itself from Perry's column and they've sent us a statement to that effect.

Latter Update: Let me just add a little more on this. As you can see, the angle Newsmax is taking on this is to suggest that Perry doesn't really have anything to do with them, that he's just an "unpaid blogger." Now I think we all understand that there are many sites -- Kos, Redstate, even TPM -- where readers are allowed to set up their own blogs or diaries and write their own stuff. These are essentially discussion areas. And it's a cheap shot when someone finds some nutty diary on Kos and says DailyKos published such and such. Newsmax is claiming that that's what's happening here. But we've taken a close look. And I think it's clear that that is not true. Perry has written a weekly column for the site going back to at least 1999. And he's prominently listed on the bio page of all Newsmax columnists, along with Dick Morris, Dr. Laura, Grover Norquist, Lanny Davis, Michael Reagan, Rep. Ernest Istook, etc. (You can see the page we're referring to here; scroll down and look for the red arrow on the left.) We'll have more for you on this shortly.

3. There's so much treasonous and insane RW blather going around, it must
be stunning when someone finally calls these media outlets on it. They've gotten so used to making the most ridiculous charges and suggestions, it probably didn't occur to NewsMax that they might get into trouble.

7. So now we know what john perry looks like thanks to
newsmax.com blog page. Thanks for linking to all this research, PS.

"Newsmax strongly believes in the principles of Constitutional government," she added, "and would never advocate or insinuate any suggestion of an activity that would undermine our democracy or democratic institutions."

They are now linked forever with john l. perry.

8. Republican National Committee Sponsors Newsmax

Republican National Committee Sponsors Newsmax

Rachel Slajda

Last month, the Republican National Committee used -- probably for a fee -- to solicit donations and support.

Newsmax -- which published (and later unpublished) a column saying it's not "unrealistic" that there may be a "military intervention" against President Obama -- names the RNC as "our sponsor" in the email, which is signed by RNC chair Michael Steele.

The message, addressed to "Fellow conservative," asks readers to take a health care survey and contribute "$1,000, $500, $100, $50 or $25 to help support our efforts to combat the Democrats' attempt to impose 'Obamacare' on all of us."

"You and the RNC are all that stand between our sensible Republican plan for real health care reform and the Democrats' scheme to take more of your hard-earned income to pay for other people's health care while limiting yours," it reads.
