Palin slams Obama's spending in debut speech in Asia
(AFP) – 2 hours ago

HONG KONG — Former US vice-presidential nominee Sarah Palin said the US government was wasting taxpayers' money and could aggravate poverty, said delegates at her first speech outside North America on Wednesday.

Palin, the former governor of Alaska, gave hundreds of financial big-hitters at the CLSA Investors' Forum in Hong Kong a wide-ranging speech that covered Alaska, international terrorism, US economic policy and trade with China.

Her performance, which was closed to the media, divided opinion.

Some of those who attended praised her forthright views on government social and economic intervention and others walked out early in disgust.

"She was brilliant," said a European delegate, on condition of anonymity.

"She said America was spending a lot of money and it was a temporary solution. Normal people are having to pay more and more but things don't get better. The rich will leave the country and the poor will get poorer."

Two US delegates left early, with one saying "it was awful, we couldn't stand it any longer". He declined to be identified.

7. This is interesting.....
"CLSA, an arm of French bank Credit Agricole, said it closed Palin's session to the media after she indicated that she would have to adjust her speech if reporters were present"

8. "The rich will leave the country and the poor will get poorer."
Where did I hear that one before? Oh yeah, Palin's ex-partner; doddering John McCain.

He said all the richers were going to go to Ireland because the taxes are cheaper there. A couple months later Ireland's economy was one of the first to go into the shitter.

So where are the rich going to go? China? Oh yeah, they'll be welcomed with open arms. I don't think so. Canada, Mexico, India, Mozambique, the Mosquito Coast? I'd suggest Haiti.

I don't think there are very many countries that would allow a bunch of fatcats to come in and take over. like we do here.

Money is like those chips they give you at the casinos. Only good if the casino is still in business. If all the rich pull out the money will quickly lose it's value.

24. I believe if she's the candidate you will see the Republican party eventually split in two
Edited on Wed Sep-23-09 08:20 AM by Mike Daniels
Any Republican who wants to keep the Republican Party from becoming a regional party will do what they can to keep Sarah from becoming the nominee.

Failing that, I predict you'll see a significant Republican either go Independent and run in 2012 or encourage someone of national reputation to run as an Independent. I'm not sure that person would go so far as to actively campaign for the Democratic candidate.

It's basically what happened in Virignia when John Warner pushed Marshall Coleman to run as an Independent when Oliver North became the Republican challenger to Chuck Robb.

Edited on Wed Sep-23-09 08:19 AM by high density
As if this quitter is somehow a serious figure in US politics because she hopped on a plane to HK. Give us a break please. I can only imagine how horrible listening to her talk for 75 minutes must have been. Reagan's great, Obama is a socialist and everything he does is wrong. We get it. The scary part is that the press is acting like this speech will beef up her "foreign affairs" credentials. Maybe that's true if the slept at a Holiday Inn Express last night.
