Bouchard set to name Land as running mate
She endorsed his bid for governor in June and has been working for him since.

Today, Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard is expected to announce that Secretary of State Terri Lynn Land will be his running mate.

Although neither Bouchard nor Land would confirm it, Bouchard has scheduled news conferences to make a major announcement in Detroit and Lansing today.

Land dropped her own bid for governor to support Bouchard. At the time, Bouchard said any Republican candidate should consider Land as a running mate. Term limits bar her from another run for secretary of state.

The two have appeared together at parades and GOP functions, and Land has been sending regular, supportive messages about Bouchard to her followers on Twitter.

The team will emerge a week before state Republicans gather for a two-day conference to kick off the 2010 election season on Mackinac Island.

"This will give a little spark to his campaign," said Tom Shields, of the Lansing-based Marketing Resource Group. "And that's always been the thought pattern," that Bouchard would select Land as his running mate.

1. I just can't see it happening.
Bouchard already has the stink of loser about him and Land will prove to be a pain in the ass cause, in her mind, it's all about her.

As soon as she decided not to run and endorsed Bouchard, I knew she would be the running mate. He's a horrible candidate which is why I was surprised Land endorsed him. The only reason she would endorse him is to be the running mate.

I've also been predicting that Bouchard will be the nominee. With Land and Patterson not running themselves, it will come down to Hoekstra (the "real conservative") and the Bouchard (the moderate alternative). Bouchard will win the nomination and Cherry will have a pretty solid victory.

Mea culpa on the poor communication in previous post.

I agree with your assessment of the race. Any word on a Dem challenger to Cherry?

It's pretty obvious that Speaker of the House Andy Dillon is going to run. The way he has been handling the budget negotiations and his health care "plan" makes it clear he's going to be the anti-Granholm Democrat during the primary. The problem is he's basically going to be running as a Republican in a Democratic primary. If Dillon was able to defeat Cherry in the primary, which I think is unlikely, I won't be voting for the Democrat in 2010.

5. Dillon doesn't have the chops.
And Cherry's got a strong network throughout the state. If Dillon won the primary I'd sit out the race too. :toast:
