White House thinks Baucus bill will change

White House thinks Baucus bill will change

By Sam Youngman - 09/16/09

Despite months of anticipation, the White House on Wednesday stopped well short of endorsing Sen. Max Baucus's (D-Mont.) healthcare bill.

White House press secretary Robert Gibbs said the release of Baucus's Senate Finance Committee healthcare legislation the last of five committees to unveil a proposal moved the legislative process along, but President Barack Obama still thinks the bill will change.

Gibbs said that while much of Baucus's bill, which has been assailed by Democrats and Republicans, does track with Obama's overall goals for reform, he doesn't "think this is a mirror of what the president has talked about."

The White House expects that "there will be a continued legislative process that will tweak and change legislation, as there always is."

4. Pretty amazing isn't it? No puke support, no dems standing with him, only the insurance companies
behind the scenes, as they have been since this bill was drafted under their guidance. Baucus looked like an embarrassed child presenting his project to his class while he knew he didn't get it finished.

7. No doubt. And so smug that he still smiles through the entire thing, as if that will
give him a pass. Ain't gonna fly, Mr. Baucus.

10. They need something, ANYTHING to come out of the Finance Committee
Once the bill is on its way, it can be amended to hell as it's combined with the other bills. And since Baucus failed miserably at getting a single Republican vote, the rest of the party has little reason to respect his bill.
