Zogby: Post Saddam Bush approval 53%/ re-elect 47%
Bush got a slight bump from the Saddam capture per Zogby.

He has a 53-47 approval rating (well below Gallup's 63%)

47% would vote for Bush vs. 42% for "any Democrat"

Re-elect Bush 45%
Someone New 47%

Ok, I trust this poll more than Gallup. Now with the s---hitting the fan re: 9/11 Bush may have some splaining to do.

On the democratic side:

Dean: 28%
Lieberman 8%
Gep 7%
Clark 6%
Kerry 4%
Undecided 35%

1. Those Dem numbers are surprising
Dean 28% and no one else even close?

Lots of undecideds. But excellent for Dean!

2. Amazing result for Dean.
I think Zogby is a credible polling group.

(snip)
Former Vermont Governor Dr. Howard Dean continues his dominance over the other Democratic presidential hopefuls. Of 400 likely Democratic voters polled, a plurality (28%) supports him. No other candidate reached double-digits. Connecticut Senator Joseph Lieberman leads the remainder with 8%, followed by Missouri Congressman Richard Gephardt (7%), retired General Wesley Clark (6%), and Massachusetts Senator John Kerry (4%).

More than one-third (35%) of likely Democratic voters remain undecided. The margin of error for Democrats polled is +/- 5.0 percentage points.

Lieberman leads Dean among likely voters under 30, 16% - 13%, but Dean enjoys a wide margin among those ages 30- 65. Dean and Gephardt are in a virtual tie among those ages 65+.

3. check this one out
http://www.pollingreport.com/bush.htm

especially questions related to class. bush loses everytime.

this is a winner for us, or at least it would be if we weren't lining up behind a candidate that wants to increase taxes on the middle class.

4. It is interesting...
... and interesting to see the changes over time and also when those changes happened.

I really would love to find out more about this question:
Please tell me whether you agree or disagree with George W. Bush on the issues that matter most to you.

I'd like to hear exactly what are "the issues that matter most to you" and I'd like for the pollsters to let people volunteer their answers without suggestions of possible choices. I also understand that in terms of making a poll meaningful, you have to categorize the responses, but I think it would be fascinating to read the actual responses as well.

I sometimes wonder if anyone has a handle on what issues matter to most folks.

We talk about issues like the invasion of Iraq, "outing" Valerie Plame, no time and a half overtime pay, etc., but I wonder how many people feel that abortion or gay marriages or nativity scenes in public schools matter more to them than what's happening in Iraq. I don't know, but I do wonder.

5. See Mr. Fartinthewoods' link

"Generally agrees with you on issues you care about"

Yes: 48
No: 51

And most of the "issue" polls do allow for a respondent to provide an answer which is then categorized. Here's the latest (CBS/NY Times 12/17):

"Which ONE issue would you most like to hear the candidates for president discuss during the 2004 presidential campaign?"

Economy/jobs: 25%
Healthcare/Medicare: 16%
War in Iraq: 6%
Education: 4%
Taxes/IRS: 4%
Social Security: 3%
Poverty/Homelessness: 3%
Other: 25%

6. Zogby seems to be the fairest and the one most dedicated...
...to conducting truly "scientific" polls.

This is definitely good news!!!
