DeMint: No more apologizing for Wilson
DeMint: No more apologizing for Wilson
By Mike Soraghan - 09/12/09 03:57 PM ET

Rep. Joe Wilson's home-state senator says he doesn't expect the South Carolina congressman to apologize on the House floor, as House Democrats are demanding.

"I don't think he's going to do any more apologizing," Sen. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.) said in an interview at the Taxpayer March on Washington. "They just don't want to talk about the bill."

DeMint said he has talked to Wilson, and he defended the conservative Congressman for shouting "You lie!" at President Obama during his address to a joint session of Congress this week.

"I'm glad he apologized for saying it in that setting, but he was telling the truth," DeMint said. "Walking around here I've had many people say 'We support Joe.'"

House Democrats are planning to introduce a "resolution of disapproval" next week unless Wilson apologizes on the House floor. Such a resolution is not a punishment like a formal reprimand or censure, but passage would record official discontent with Wilson's outburst.

Democrats have also expressed outrage at a DeMint comment that stopping Obama's healthcare plan "will be his Waterloo." Obama appeared to make a veiled reference to that comment Wednesday night when he said, "Too many have used this as an opportunity to score short-term political points." DeMint rejected the criticism.

"I said it on a private conference call. He's the one who chose to make an issue out of it," DeMint said. "They cut off the rest of the sentence, which was that we would stop him and get on to real reform."

2. "{House Democrats} just don't want to talk about the bill."
Why should they talk about it to you? Apparently Republicans are either too stupid or too disingenuous to read or comprehend.

4. Congress better either censure the clown or do something
because the next time, you know there will be more than one idiot calling out "You lie" or worse. If there are no consequences for this behavior, it is likely to be repeated.
