My October Surprise fantasy ...
is that the Iranians will come forward with PROOF in the form of surreptitious photographs or documents from 1980 that GEORGE H.W. BUSH did, in fact, orchestrate the October Surprise counter-attack to keep the American hostages in Iran until after Reagan won the election and was sworn in.

I've often felt that the releasing of the hostages DURING Reagan's inaugural address was the dead giveaway.

Here's some history on this operation:

1. The BEST October Surprise...
would be if John McCain and, more importantly, Colin Powell, endorsed Kerry.

2. No doubt. But I was trying to keep this in the realm of the plausible ...

and McCain and Powell are still holding out for a future in presidential politics ... and it would have to be in the Republican Party.

Unfortunately, these two should realize that if we have to endure four more years of Bush, another Republican may not make it to the White House for decades.

If Bush wins or steals this election (which I pray doesn't happen), there may be a repeat of Nixon's second term with a series of scandals that will make us all forget about Watergate.

There is enough stuff out there, that when things really get critical in the next year, and there's a consensus that Bush must go -- the evil House of Bush may come crashing down. Regardless of the outcome of this election, I think we're reaching critical mass on the Bush family.

McCain and Powell want to pick up the pieces with their reputations intact, but would have to be seen as having been "reluctant team-players."

5. The sad irony
... may be that a Bush win would ultimately be a better outcome than a Kerry win.

I intend no slam to Kerry by saying that.

If Bush wins the election, I'm sure that he will leave the White House in leg irons, and the Republican Party will implode like the Canadian Conservative Party did a few years back. The only fly in that ointment may be world-wide depression, war, and large numbers of deaths.

A Kerry win keeps the right wing alive ... unless we can stay united and overturn the smaller-but-still-fanatical RW fiefdoms that have taken over our press, media, schools, churches, and other institutions.

We ain't done yet.

Bush et al will launch airstikes against "alleged," or "possible" nuclear bomb-making plants inside Iranian territory.
