My memory must be slipping, I thought we won the last election!
Edited on Thu Sep-03-09 09:03 PM by PatSeg
Why is the minority party calling all the shots? Why do they seem to be winning? What kind of party lets the losers intimidate and bully them?

I'm at a total loss right now. The Democratic party is caving into the wackiest fringe of a shrinking party and I feel like I'm in some alternate universe.

1. It is ticking me off to no end.
Capitulating to the bastards because the media only focuses on the small minority of idiots.

8. I'm a realistic
I wasn't expecting magic or miracles, but this is insane. I can picture a health care bill that is so watered down that it will end up costing more money and benefiting the insurance industry. Then the republicans, who STILL won't vote for it, will blame Obama and call it a failure.

3. If we can't pass the public option, there is no purpose of parties.
They are even more meaningless than we already knew they were. If there is no cohesion among the members, there is no reason to continue them.

4. The only ones that won last election are the corporations
They own and operate the majority of Congress. The sooner we know that, the better we understand the real enemy and the quicker we'll focus on defeating them by reminding our congress critters that if we don't get what we want, they won't get what they want come reelection.

so even though we DO have a majority, we don't have a united party.

9. The news out of the white house does not sound
encouraging - no public option and private insurance reform with a "trigger" for a public option if costs don't come down? In the little magic place of my mind, I can visualize it all being some grand ploy to throw the republicans off their game, but back on earth it looks like caving in to the losers.

11. The minority party is NOT calling the shots. The
Blue Dog Dems are the problem and President Obama is doing his best to get their fucking asses in line.

It's NOT THE REPUBLICANS who are the problem. The Republicans are nobody. They don't matter. We have the votes IF we vote together, but we have some problem kids that won't support the President or their constitutents. Address your concerns to them and then take a deep breath and wait for the outcome.

15. They keep getting the amendments they want,
(what is it now 160), then turn around and declare they won't vote for it in any form. Yes, I know the Blue Dogs are a big problem, but the republicans are getting most of the press.

I'm normally not this reactive, but today was the last straw...........probably the first of LOTS of last straws I'm sure.

17. How have they gotten amendments when nothing's been voted on?
We can't help what the press does. That's not something we can control unless we want to go around calling Republicans Nazi's,w hich makes us as bad as them.

I totally understand that you feel frustrated and pissed. I do to. Channel your frustration into action and call your Congressmen and Senators, or send them an e-mail. But don't give up and don't let the GOP goad you into blaming the very people who are trying to pass health care reform. Passing legislatin is ugly and it ain't easy.

Be patient friend. We'll get there.

20. Thanks
I'm usually the calm voice of reason, but today got to me. I've contacted my congresswoman and senators numerous times already. I was actually surprised by Senator Boxer's rather noncommittal response on this issue though. It was the first time I've ever seen her seem to waver.

Okay, I'm going to breathe now and if that doesn't work, I'll have a drink!

because I'm so depressed by all the ugliness around us. It's hard to be the voice of reason day after day when you're constantly surrounded by lies and hate, but we try.

Probably does no good..but I have to try. We heard for 8 years that "elections have consequences". Why do they only have consequences for us? Why are there no consequences for the repubs?

16. Every a little bit counts
Think I'll do the same. The high cost of health care has already ruined me financially and I can't go back and change it, but there is still hope for so many others who could end up going through what I have.

24. Really? The GOP would have done these 'horrible' liberal acts
Lets see, what's happened since inauguration day....

-A liberal judge was replaced with a liberal, and confirmed by the senate.

-An economic stimulus plan that's helped the economy start to get back on track was passed, even though the GOP called it the biggest pork barrel spending ever.

-A bill to combat global warming passed the house, and will be taken up later this year in the senate.

-A bill to give women equal pay for equal work was signed into law, something that I think Bush previously vetoed (or threatened to)

-A big pork barrel military project to fight old style wars was cut out of budget, despite protests from the GOP about how this would make us less safe, while costing their districts pork barrel money.

And I'm sure I'm forgetting lots more, yep, sounds like a ultra right winger is running Washington to me based on accomplishments.

25. Thanks for the reminders
Usually I see the positives and accept the occasional setbacks, but health care reform is so important and affects so many people. In spite of the negative media, I've been relatively optimistic. Today I started to have some doubts. I'm sure I'll be better tomorrow.

27. Election 2008....
...was a crushing defeat for Progressives and Working Class Americans.

Rahm, the DLC, and BIG MONEY won.
Political Parties mean nothing to that crowd...Republican?...Democrat?...Who cares as long as the MONEY MACHINE is cranking out the dollars.
"Policy" and "Issues" are for suckers.

If you don't realize this now, wait until you open your new Health Care Package and find a BIG MANDATORY Bill from the For Profit Health Insurance Industry, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Wall Street Banks.

Now, Who's your daddy ?

35. Every page of that playbook
advocates lying, cheating, and fear mongering. Democrats need to take a page out of FDR's playbook - call them on every lie, every time, with speed and certitude.

"We had to struggle with the old enemies of peace—business and financial monopoly, speculation, reckless banking, class antagonism, sectionalism, war profiteering.

They had begun to consider the Government of the United States as a mere appendage to their own affairs. We know now that Government by organized money is just as dangerous as Government by organized mob." Speech at Madison Square Garden (October 31, 1936)
