Palin Punk'd
Palin Speaking Gig a Joke

Sarah Palin's invitation to speak in Hong Kong later this month is part of a practical joke, Business Insider reports.

"CLSA, the Asia-focused broker who invited Mrs. Palin as keynote speaker for an Asian investment conference, is well known for their cheeky takes on investment research."

"In the past, they've polled Asian fortune tellers for index targets, hired anime cartoonists to draw Japanese research, and generally love to push the boundaries between entertainment and analysis. They are a real research firm, it's just that they love to sprinkle in some hilarity every now and then as a smart marketing gimmick. Sarah Palin is this year's big laugh for them."

2. I was in Hong Kong about a month ago
And the people I talked to loved Obama. So they likely have little use for Palin. Those people value education and Palin isn't too smart.

5. I only wish this would not have been revealed until after her arrival
I can guarantee a "scheduling conflict" that keeps Palin away, damn it people if you know these things you are supposed to keep them a secret until the target falls into the trap. (And no that was not aimed at the OP, it was aimed at the people who publicly made this revelation.)

8. That was a classic
It was a Montreal radio station that did it. That "morning crew" had a reputation for making crank calls and punking people in power.

If Palin's staff had been even the tinyest bit competent, they would have checked the calling phone number.

17. It is being reported here that she did indeed accept the invitation.

We'll see how she weasles out of it -- that seems to be her MO since the campaign.

From Sean Cockerham in Anchorage --

Sarah Palin's spokeswoman, Meg Stapleton, says the former governor will indeed be speaking in Hong Kong.

The Hong Kong-based brokerage firm CLSA said this week that Palin will be the keynote speaker at their annual investor's conference this month.

But, given recent history http://www.adn.com/palin/story/912369.html , it seemed prudent to make sure Palin was actually on board.

Stapleton also confirmed reports that Palin has signed with the Washington Speakers Bureau to handle her paid speaking engagements.

9. The invitation was in the news. So will the fact that it was a joke be in the news?
It should be.

11. I asked the same thing. I just turned to Faux for a minute to see what they're lying about now and
Greta just reported Sarah Palin is giving a speech in Hong Kong! Greta and Karl Rove are discussing what she has to do to be impressive in her speech! They didn't get the memo!

13. That makes me wonder if it really IS a joke. Or if the joke is this non-media report?
If it's not being reported in verifiable news sources, maybe it isn't true.

19. oh you guys!
This is like the political/Hong Kong version of "I survived a Japanese Game Show", isn't it!!!! They get dumb American ex-politicians over there and make them do dumb things while telling the audience in Japanese what idiots the players seem to be. The players meanwhile smile inanely at the audience and take the game seriously and cry when they mess up during the velcro competition.
