"We are a very crippled giant
suffering from self inflicted wounds."

I'm sure there will be you-tube links and many threads about the Bill Moyers appearance on Bill Maher's show tonight.

I just sent a letter to Obama asking him to meet with Mr. Moyers. He needs to send Air Force One to pick up the old gentleman and bring him to the White House.

We need to have our president spend some time with this man, this soul of the Democratic party. If Obama would listen, he could be saved from the corporate cronies that surround his office.

What can be done to get these two together? I think nothing would help us, the party, and the country more right now.

1. I was really impressed by him.
Moyers demostrates so well what sets Liberals apart: that we can criticize our president (and our country) while still supporting him. During the last administration, the Republicans just didn't understand that.

He also articulated well one of my few problems with Obama (but a frequent problem with Democratic politicians). Obama, IMHO, needs to use more populist rhetoric. Less policy wonk, more Teddy Roosevelt. I know he's got it in him; I've met the man, was pat of his campaign when he was still meeting voters in people's living rooms. I'd like to see it again. For that matter, Harry Reid used to have a spine, nd I'd like to know where the hell it's gone. And don't get me started on the Blue Dogs...

3. Whoa. Powerful -- and chilling -- sentiment. Didn't see the show but
I'll check out YouTube or HBO's site. I bet it was wonderful, and I agree about Obama meeting with him.

Didn't Obama appoint his cabinet and team? What makes you think he's looking to be saved from his own administration?

10. Didn't say he was looking for it.

Just saying that he needs to be saved.

Did you see the show? Do you know what was said? What part of anything that Moyers had to say was not true or relevant?

15. Do you know what was said? Moyers has been making the same points for years.
Pass the Bread (Bill Moyers is great!)

Bill Moyers: A Culture of Corruption

Bill Moyers: Republicans own the government lock, stock, and barrel

Suddenly, Obama is in office and people are acting like this is all new. Eureka! In his seven months in office, Obama has made significant progress in trying to address or right some of the wrongs.

Do people really believe that it would be easy to change the culture, and that it could be done in less than a year?

20. Do you think Moyers' view of the world is wrong?
You didn't answer whether you watched the show? The particular claim, while praising Obama for his skills, was that his advisers are part of the corporate political structure.

If you don't like Bill Moyers, that says a lot about what you think.

We'll see. Maybe Obama is a superman. Maybe he is just using rahm and the republicans. It keeps looking the other way though.

I envy your radical joy.

23. "If you don't like Bill Moyers..." You make a lot of assumptions, including the OP
Edited on Sat Aug-29-09 08:48 PM by ProSense
You assume that the President has no clue as to Moyers' views.

I suspect if Obama wanted Moyers' counsel, he'd ask for it. Barring that, he's the President and he decides who he wants to turn to for advice.

Besides Moyers' observations aren't made as points for governing. He isn't offering any solution. Reporting and governing aren't the same.

Another thing, why are you assuming that Obama isn't aware that this country is screwed up, that special interests are influencing policy and that something has to change?

24. I suspect that Obama isn't really aware of many things
Perhaps you've never worked with people in great power. They are isolated in many ways.

If Obama is aware of the concerns voiced on that program and doesn't give a shit, then he will be a failed one-termer.

You still don't say whether you watched the program. Your comments about him not having any points about governing would indicate that you either didn't watch or don't get it. The point was obvious about how the president's message needs to change. If he is aware that the country is screwed up, those of us not infatuated don't see it.

I will be happy if you are right, that Obama is cleverly manipulating the media and the republicans and all the malefactors that are running our country, that he will pull of a great coup and rain down destruction to their evil ways. I will be happy if that is so. But I will not bet on it. You seem to be a person of great faith. Faith in things unseen and in the promises of candidates for political office. We all pray we are the ones in error and that you will be vindicated.

I still have the question about just what would you find to be a failure in this administration. Is there any course of action, any speech, any behavior that you will not only condone, but laud? Sorry I lack your faith, but my eyes and ears have neither seen nor heard anything hopeful for some time.

9. You gotta wonder
if the WH operates like so many other big organizations where the guy at the top is insulated and isolated from the world by his own men.

11. He's A US Treasure
I too was hoping Obama was watching and taking notes. That said I'm sure I won't be the only one mailing links to the video to Obama. I hope they flood his mailbox.

Loved Moyers saying he wanted more Teddy Roosevelt than FDR out of Obama - it's way past time to do a little serious trust busting while he's fervently pushing for a serious public health plan.

I hope it's true that Barack now realizes that his wish for bi partisan support was a pipe dream, though it's alarming it took him that long to figure that out, talk about slow on the uptake, good grief. For the foreseeable future it's us against the greed heads and we need to get things done in the cutthroat manner that they've used to screw it all up.

12. Like a real journalist he
said so many things well. With a few clear sentences he expressed the problems of the country and the party and laid out the problems facing our president.

Without trying to hide or cover his meaning, he showed how we got here and no one can argue with his analysis of the error of waiting for republican "help" on anything.

Can we start a collection to buy Moyers a ticket to Washington to meet with Obama? Could he get through the president's corporate guard?

13. Obama could never have a real progressive in his midst.....
all he can do is get into catfights with neo-cons like Cheney to make himself look like a moderate, then turn around and decree that the conspiracy of 9/11 is no longer a topic of discussion. Now tell me how happy Cheney and Bush are to hear that.

shite like that which I'm glad President Obama is not doing.

There are a lot of positives things happening in our government right now since Obama Biden got in but the whingers never mention that..just crap from their narrow little vision. peep hole, really.

17. We may have a mortal wound coming.
We could all just buy some more dvd's and eat some sushi and sit in the coffee shop and laugh. It might be just as good a way to watch the end as any.

I always think of Slim Pickens as Major Kong riding the nuke like a bronco. As long as you're going to go, might as well have the best seat for the show.

that brought out millions for the election. If Obama doesn't start acting and speaking like that, he will be left with nothing but his rock star fan base to support him next time.
