President Obama: Progressives support you, which is why progressives remind you
That you WON, and won by EIGHT MILLION VOTES.

Therefore, you don't need to act like you're the junior partner in a coalition.

When you stand up to the thugs and the 'pugs is when you're strongest. When you negotiate with them, you're at your weakest and at their mercy. It's just not worth it.

Fight like a winner, fight like you do at your best, and we'll GET healthcare with a public option.

The Beltway CAN be broken.

Actually, the way we are being treated now, they're doing everything short of mocking us right out in the open.

17. Is there any good reason we should just shut up and say nothing?
Leaders will always do nothing unless forced to move from below.

Rahm thinks a healthcare bill without public option is still a progressive victory.

19. You can't defend backroom talks and then attack people by saying
"you don't know what's going on" in those backroom talks, when the whole point of said talks is to keep people FROM knowing.

You have no reason to be this paranoid. It's the right that's the problem, not progressives. Rahm should only be being tough and confrontational towards the right.

20. Everything that's come out in public indicates Rahm and Obama are hurting the fight
for single payer of course, but even the public option.

If you can find anything with Rahm Emanuel supporting a strong public option, I'd like to see it. Otherwise, what I'm saying is more than just noise---and no, on this issue, they're not trying to help us.

4. The President says he'd listen to a good idea whether it came from a Democrat or a Republican
But the problem with that is the last Republican to have a good idea was Richard Nixon, when he created the EPA. (And even that wasn't enough to make up for all of his really, really, bad ideas.)

So why the fuck are we wasting time with the BAD ideas coming from the Repukes? Or the DLC/Blue Balled Cowards, for that matter.

The best idea is Medicare for all (HR 676). The second best idea is a true public option. There are no other good ideas in this discussion. Not one.

We don't need Republicans, but we need blue dogs. Progressives are in the minority in both houses.

8. Then in fact 'we' are in the minority, and Party politics is worthless
because the Blue Dogs and many of the other right wing Democrats are not anything like me. They oppose even basic human rights for my family, they oppose decent reform in the health arena. They are Republicans in every meaningful way. They need to go be Republicans. That is what they are. Prejudiced, backward, and venal.

Edited on Tue Aug-25-09 01:50 PM by kenny blankenship
Obama is leader of his party not just the President. If he's unhappy with a Dem. house member the DNC can withhold campaign funds. (Yes, this is how it works) Why then are the Blue Dogs in charge? Obama should be showing them the whip- unless he actually shares their priorities.

bipartisanship will mean no public option and thus no change on healthcare.

You can't really be arguing that progressives should shut up.
