Hey, in Journalism School back in the late 1970's, I never heard the words...
"Some Say", especially when discussing legitimate sources.

After I decided that accounting was more my style, I left Journalism behind.

Unless they brought out 'Some Say" as a source in Junior and Senior level classes, I never heard it was ethical to use "Some Say" a source.

So any "journalist" who uses "Some Say" as a cover for their own opinions should be fired.

And if any Democrat is sitting across from one of these smarmy talking heads who trots out "Some Say" without saying "who says, Mr. Gregory, who are these "some" that are "saying" all this should be ashamed of themselves.

When did "Some Say" become a source?

I really would like to know.

1. It's a fucking cop-out.
And anyone who uses it is a moron.

Real journalists (are there any left?) would never let that phrase cross their lips, never mind think it.

You would have made a hell of a Journalist, IMHO...

10. Hey Peggy!
Where am I?

He's fine. Busy though. Right now we have a client staying with us. He's in town for a couple of days while he consults with the Admiral on some paperwork. They're on a break right now and moved into the bedroom so we can all watch "The Daily Show" and Colbert together.

13. I have a degree in journalism, and I was taught to attribute statements to their actual sources.

"Some" isn't a source. "Some" is to sources as Fox is to news.

14. On a related note, I hate it when a PopSci article says "some scientists say".
Usually it's a segue to some reference to a BS, clichéd popular misunderstanding of a scientific theory or outright pseudoscience.

15. Re your accounting background. Try signing off on an audit by saying,

"Some say these books balance."

18. I'm also a product of late '70s journalism school. And no, we didn't use "some say."
We were taught that there had to be a damned good reason for not using a source's name.

20. "Some Say" was specifically addressed in my ethics class.
It's rule #1 on presenting credible sources.

One of my jobs awhile back was to convince sources to go on record. They all want to be unnamed, but I could sway most of them by explaining how the report would come off as less credible and they might not get the public support they're looking for.

My how things have changed. Unnamed sources (including the contents of Rush Limbaugh's butt) are protected and repeated. Named sources are picked apart, shut down, and attacked ad-hominem.

22. It drives me mad when I hear or read "some say"
And then they provide NO direct quotes to back that statement up.

At that point, I realize it's an OPINION piece, not to be taken as "gospel".
