1. Maybe?
but my time machine runs on gasoline, so it would be too expensive to send the entire human population back now. When I get it working on solar... I'll give you an update and we can all start getting in line.

15. I tend to agree, but I believe the branch of government might be wrong
I think there are a bunch with no backbone just down the street from the White House, in a very large building called the Capitol.

Therein lies the problem.

Edited on Tue Aug-18-09 02:54 AM by Cali_Democrat
Supermajority don't mean shit if you can't even get a bill out of committee and there really ain't a damn thing Obama could do about it.

I guarantee you that Obama would sign a bill with a public option. He's not the problem. Obama could send a message to Congress by rejecting a bill with no public option.

Then we will be back to square one and people like you will rage at Obama even more without recognizing the real problem.

20. I'm shocked at the weakness he is displaying.
He looks like a muzzled dog instead of a president. Always clarifying, always backtracking. You'd never know he is a president belonging to a party with a crushing majority.

Because the country is in bad shape, our president must reflect that by looking weak and inconsistent?

26. Cannot understand what? Is this some sort of mystical rule
that we cannot comprehend why a president looks and acts weak? Are turning off the base and giving fuel to Republicans some sort of Machiavellian strategy I don't understand?

29. Everyone would be on the same message if he would unequivocally support public option
All he has to do is say this to end all these embarrassing clarifications: "I support a public option, and any bill without a public option is not reform; I'll never sign any bill without public option because I answer to the American people, and they demand real reform."

That's all he has to say. But he is in "all options on the table" mode, therefore constant clarifications and backtracking. And thus no message to rally behind. Rethugs have "death panels", we have "all options on the table."

ALL OPTIONS ON THE TABLE! ALL OPTIONS ON THE TABLE! RAH RAH RAH! <--- See how lame a rallying cry that is.

34. Both you and he must undersand that working hard is not the same as appearance
To be President, you must have a basic understanding of appearances. We wouldn't have the day-in, day-out questioning of his intentions with respect to public option if he stated it clearly.

He cannot counter the Republicans because they have a clear message (even if it is completely idiotic) and we have an unclear message.

and I supported him before he threw his hat into the ring. I volunteered and donated money throughout the primaries because he said what I believed in.

He has, unfortunately, looked like a complete amateur in this healthcare debate so far. The Right is using us as a punching bag because our dogs of war were neutered by President Obama's curious neutrality and bipartisanship. Bipartisanship with people who equate him with Hitler, Stalin, and the anti-Christ. People who hope he fails and calls his children racial epithets.

and what works with Washington, D.C. the way it is.

President Obama has plenty of backbone- just not in the way that's required to keep irrational and/or well connected lawbreaking Americans in line.

At least, not yet.
