screw the memos, check out KERRY'S SPEECH!!!!!
http://www.johnkerry.com/pressroom/speeches/spc_2004_0920.html

THIS is the John Kerry we know and love! He's finally hitting Shrub where it hurts! I only wish I would have heard it live, instead of reading the press release.

Folks, nobody cares about the memos, or who did what 35 years ago. America wants to know what our candidate will do to get us out of Iraq as soon as possible.

This speech is a damn good start. Screw the stupid memos, push this speech!!!

4. Screw the memo is right!
Let the Republicans do the CBS "he said, she said" garbage...the speech was terrific. Basically, Kerry called Georgie imcompentent, obstinate, and a liar. About time!

10. Kerry never used the actual word "liar"...it would have been story #1...
...if he had. Every repug would be on every single cable news outlet screaming for an apology if Kerry had said that.

DEMS need to learn how to be more outrageous if they are ever going to "fool" the media into repeating our talking points.

6. Since I'm in Calif, I got to watch it before I left..he was great!
The set behind him was also impressive, it was made up of American flags. I went right out after our new president to be's speech and put out my flag with my already displayed Kerry sign. It felt great to do that. I am proud of Kerry today, even more than usual.

9. Kerry is such a breath of fresh air
He just straight out says what is so obvious, while everyone else is spinning and twisting and hiding.

It's a huge relief just to listen to him and know that SOMEBODY has a grasp of reality.

14. I'm anxious to see the replay on C-Span -- great speech.
I'd like to see the taxpayers across the country to file a class action suit against this administration to shift the burden of paying for their miscalculations in regard to the reconstruction of those areas bombed in Iraq. It makes me sick to think of all the billions wasted & the bombing continues.

As Kerry mentioned, Falluja, Ramadi, Samarra, & parts of Baghdad are now "no go" zones for our troops -- they're now breeding grounds for anti-American fighting forces. Duh -- what in the hell did they expect when this administration chose to "kick ass" & challenge them to "bring 'em on" with their immoral pre-emptive war?

I'm disgusted with this administration. I've got two sons who would be eligible for the draft, which is sure to happen if this coWard maneuvers himself a second manufactured win in Nov. I wish his blindly-led supporters could see that this election is not about partisan politics -- it's about saving this country from further harm.

I am hoping and hoping that the headlines and Kerry's clear-eyed assessment of the disaster Bush has created will start to get through the delusional defenses of his supporters.

23. I'm thinking that it will be the debates that open their eyes.
Thanks to Faux News in particular, a lot of people will be hearing about the coWard-in-chief's true character for the first time. The debates will be very enlightening to a particular faction of this country.

Of course, there are those who choose to wear blinders because, to them, this is a war against "Republicans" & "Democrats". I have a lot of respect for those Republicans who are open-minded to see the truth: That we have been driven into a ditch & we need someone with enough smarts to take over the driving.

24. The only reason...
That Shrub has a prayer is because of the media.

Now, the media will claim that Bush won, even if he throws up all over the podium...but maybe...just maybe...

if they actually show the debates live, people will see.

16. What a terrific speech and also the related links next to the text....
...Now Kerry's writers need to do a similar speech on the U.S. economy and the failures that BushCo has committed there, with Kerry's program of real recovery. It would also be nice to have a speech on corporate corruption and a plan to reign that in in Kerry's presidency. The secret plan that Kerry can keep under the table until he is inaugurated in January is the one where all of the Bush operatives and irresponsible reThugs in congress are rounded up, arrested and tried for their crimes of irresponsibility, lies and outright criminal activity.

From the talk it is obvious what Bush needs to be doing until the end of his term in January and also his presidency and that is to stop campaigning to be re-elected and to get to work fixing the mess he has made.

20. Sounds like a plan
I think the corporate corruption angle is a very good one to take. That one's been under the radar because of Iraq, but now with the news of Halliburton's shenanigans coming to light, it's a good one to add to the list.

Kerry doesn't need to get nasty-- all he has to do is tell the truth, without the sugar coating. Tell Americans the real costs of the war-- what $200bil could do here at home, how much extra unemployment/job transition assistance it could provide, how many schools it could fix, how much healthcare it could provide, etc.

I'm glad Kerry has finally found the guts to get down to business with the Bushies. IMHO had he waited any longer he risked losing the election.

18. EXACTLY!!! Clarkies/Deanies/Kucitizens/others knew all along
Those of us for whom the war is their biggest issue have known that Bush's little Mesopotamian adventure would blow up in his face before the election. The news of the last few weeks (52 more dead soldiers, July memo, etc.) have only proven this to be the case. Bush has totally screwed the pooch on this, and finally the American people are waking up.

Kerry still has time to hit Dubya on this, and hit him HARD. A few more speeches like this (along with some proposals for a way out) and we'll have the Busheviks on the run.

GO JOHN KERRY GO!!!! :toast:

21. It's time to kick Halliburton out of that country
and get some Iraqis with a clue to start their own reconstruction. I remember back after the invasion, when Halliburton was demanding a couple hundred million to fix every kid's tricycle, some Iraqi engineers got a power plant back online with just their smarts and a few hundred thousand for a job that Halliburton had claimed would take millions (and they still didn't get it done.)

Part of Kerry's plan is to allow Iraqis to work in their own country, instead of trying to grab all the profits for US.

22. Exactly. Especially since Iraq's unemployment rate is about 75%
One thing the Bushites have consistently done is to "misunderestimate" the people of Iraq. Before Desert Storm, Iraq enjoyed a standard of living that was the envy of the Arab world. It had a large, educated middle class, great infrastructure, and a solid economy-- despite a ruthless dictator in power. Most peoples' needs were provided for, and people lived in relative comfort. Iraq's situation (pre-DS) was not much different from that in Indonesia or Singapore, two other US "allies" who had strong economies and ruthless dictators who stifled political dissent.

Those who stayed in Iraq after DS and those expatriots who are returning have the will, the intelligence, and the knowledge to rebuild Iraq-- and they'll do it for a hell of a lot less than Haliburton/Bechtel/any other large American corporation will.

The Iraqis have not only survived Saddam and a 14-year embargo, they've also stymied US attempts to "give them security", too. They are more than capable of rebuilding and running their country. As historian Howard Zinn has said, how dare we assume that we're the only ones who can rebuild Iraq?

Kerry needs to hammer on this for the next six weeks. If he does, he may even see some additional support from those anti-war folks who are voting for Kerry, but have not been active in the campaign. There's a very large number out there who feel that way, too, and their energies can serve us well-- especially in underrepresented areas.

28. Thank God he gave this on the same day the memo thing hit!
It was great to see clips of Kerry's speech on the news cycle at the same time this CBS meltdown threatened to take over everything. It effectively changed the both the subject and the focus of the Kerry campaign, deflecting attempts by the rethugs to pin this story on Kerry. He was out there giving Bush hell on Iraq, not talking about AWOL.

Sometimes, timing really is everything. :)
