Conrad Spokesman Denies Earlier Report

A report earlier today said Sen. Kent Conrad (D-ND) would vote against a health care reform plan with a public option. It was big news if you're following the debate closely.

Alex Koppelman: "Turns out, though, that it's not true. The Sun's story never quoted Conrad directly about the public option, and the senator's communications director, Sean Neary, told Salon that the story was inaccurate. Conrad has been telling his constituents that he won't let the government run their health care, which may be the cause of the confusion, but that language doesn't preclude the public option."

5. Got to love that. He is the guy who want the co-ops rather than public option.

8. I'd Like To See What Time This Denial Came Today........
The first thing I saw this morning when I logged on to DU was that Conrad said he'd vote against a public option. The poster recommended we call the Senator and lodge our dissatisfaction with his comment.

I immediately called his D.C. office and said that I heard that the Senator will not vote for a public option - that even though I was not a resident in his state - that I would be sending money into the state to see that he doesn't get re-elected.

The person that took my comments in his office - seemed really distraught - like they've been getting a great deal of calls on this and that they were all similar to my sentiments.

I bet that that info got directly to the Senator - and he realized that he put his foot in his mouth and that they had to issue some sort of denial.

I have to think that our telephone campaign worked. I think Conrad is the Senator that is pushing the Co-Op idea. I sure hope that we put the fear of unemployment in him and he's changed his tune.
