Edited on Mon Aug-10-09 01:25 AM by BluegrassDem
Am I the only one thinking why they're continuing this silly charade? These are not town halls, these are mob events. Why don't Pelosi and Reid just tell their caucus not to hold any town halls during the recess? Let the racist mob protest at their own town hall events.

1. So we should let the harpies shout down our ability to talk to our reps?

7. My congressman never even scheduled a town hall event
And there's not much uproar about it where I live. He's very smart. No need in giving these mobs airtime on the local news.

6. I'd sort of like to know what the reps get out of them in the first place-
How many constituents ideas or concerns get incorporated into their legislative agendas?

What sorts of records could we all look at to try to figure that?

These bs town halls are pure theater, intended to help punk healthcare reform.

12. The Dem's are trying to get out of this and need to blame the Repubs
If you can't see that, you must be very young.

Americans want single payer healthcare.
The politicians know this.
Trot out a bunch of nutters on teevee who claim Americans DON'T want single payer.

Wash. Rinse. Repeat.

It's how the two parties ALWAYS do it.

It's Harry and Louise Part 2, only no one has to actually pay for the commercials.

13. Because the crazies at the town halls are increasing public support for health care reform.
The people in the great muddled middle of American politics are turned off by extremism, hence their utter disdain for Sarah Palin once she opened her mouth. The same thing will happen with health care reform the more coverage these bleating town hall racists get.

Our reps ought to be meeting with us, and ought not to let a few malcontents prevent this key part of the democratic process.

they need to stand up to those goons, have some fortitude to stand against them.

It also shows the fascist militant hostilities that were encouraged by Faux News, Limbaugh and the like.

Let's put their vacuous disruption in the public record, run on it, remind voters of it in 2010, and turn it to our advantage.

19. Democratic members who hold these town hall events need to regain control of them.
Does anyone believe such nonsense would go on at an Obama town hall meeting? It should be the same for any member of Congress who holds these events as well. All people are welcome to come and discuss their ideas and opinions, differing as they may be, but people are not allowed to come in and disrupt the meetings by shouting, bullying, and intimidating others. They need to be taken out and charged with disorderly conduct and then we will see if they have the courage of their convictions.

As a side note, in discussing healthcare reform with a retired (73) Republican friend he became so worked up about it that I thought he would have an aneurysm. At his insistence I had to drop the suject and we talked about something else. He regularly listens to Rushbo who gets him all bent out of shape about everything.

20. When extremist groups want to silence the voice of the citizenry in some
countries, they commit violence against those standing in line to vote.

Diebold machines accomplish the same end with less blood.

Both are impulses to fascism.

Most junior high schoolers know that a mature person waits his or her turn to speak, then given the opportunity speaks clearly and to the point, and then allows the next person a turn.

The teabaggers and the Becktoids and the birthers etc. are visibly in violation of that basic zone of conduct.

The town hall meetings should continue, and let's use the film of the disrupters' conduct in campaign advertising in the 2010 Congressional races.
