1. 50/50ish so far
Walked bleary-eyed out to the driveway first thing this morning, and there was the Chicago Sun-Times with a nice headline about the President's remarks on the Gates situation "Obama: Police acted stupidly."

The Chicago Tribune, on the other hand, has a headline reading "Obama: Enough politics, pass a health bill". However, of the four paragraphs on the front page, the fourth (and largest) concerns the Gates situation.

Sigh. Sigh sigh sigh.

2. I don't know because I haven't had cable for a decade
I'm fairly sure when I get up this afternoon, I'll be able to tell what they said without having to suffer it myself. I love being TV free!

3. Headline Boston Globe: "Obama scolds Cambridge police"
Even the liberal Boston Globe has resorted to a headline like this.

The focus is off of health care and his otherwise fine press conference.

Now the right will paint Obama as being anti-police.

Mr. Obama has hurt his cause. What a shame.

5. Obama has "hurt his cause" only with the racists. And they loathe him anyway.
He called it right. His base will support him and all Americans who are not racists will understand why he said what he did. Ignore the racists. Concentrate on the people who are decent.

6. Maybe so, but I was expecting to read headlines today re: health care reform.
This isn't helping at all.

8. I would expect the Globe to carry more coverage of this. It isn't surprising.
It's a local story for them. However, my New Haven Register didn't even cover it. A small story was carried on p. A20 of the NY Times. So I woke up to minimal local and NYT coverage.

On Morning Joe, they were talking about how badly the police acted. Joe has taken the position that if it were he, and not Gates, in that situation the cops would never have arrested him and indeed would have tried to help him get into his house. Mika started up with one of her nonsensical points but everyone on the panel was in vehement agreement with Joe...
